1939 Cadillac La Salle MODEL 50 CONVERTIBLE Additional Info:

1939 Cadillac La Salle Series 50 Opera Convertible powered by the original (rebuilt) numbers matching 322 cu. in. V-8 Cadillac engine rated at 125 h.p. and backed by its matching 3-speed manual synchro-mesh trans.

This La Salle was an older restoration when the current owner purchased it 13 years ago. There were many mechanical and electrical issues which needed to be addressed before the car could safely be driven on the street. This included the brakes and fuel system which now uses an electric fuel pump (6-volt).

The Franconia Beige Iridescent enamel paint, tan cloth top, and ‘ox blood’ red leather interior is believed to be the original colors to the La Salle. The upholstery and carpeting are in excellent condition. All of the factory gauges work including the speedometer and odometer. Push button radio comes on but is just static. Mileage shows 96,450 which is believed to be original and only 450 miles have been logged since the current owner purchased the car.

As an Opera style convertible, there are passenger jump seats in the back which fold up. The tan convertible top is manual and includes the matching boot (see photos). All of the supports to the top are believed to be original and in excellent condition.

The suspension is original and was rebuilt some time ago. The wide white wall radial tires were added 8 years ago.

The interior and exterior chrome is in excellent condition and shows no pitting. The paint and bodywork are starting to show some age with some cracking and bubbling in several areas (see photos). Passenger side window is cracked.

The 6-volt electrical system was retained and all of the lights, including the optional La Salle fog lights work.

To say this convertible draws a crowd wherever it goes would be an understatement. It is truly a piece of bygone automotive art and amazing to drive.
