Cadillac introduced the V12 power plant in 1931 allowing buyers some extra power and performance without the added cost of the larger V16 engine. Production output for the 370A was tremendous as buyers found both the 40 extra horsepower, and luxury status of the V12 engine, to be well worth the extra money! Cadillac sold 5,733 V12 units in 1931 setting the stage for progressive design changes in 1932, now referred to as the 370B. The classic, carriage-like bodies by coachbuilders would transition between 1932-1933 into a more streamlined automobile with flared fenders and curved running boards. Styling changes for the 1933 Model 370C would include a V-shaped grill with painted radiator shell giving the appearance of a longer hood, particularly because of a radiator cap was now hidden underneath. Skirted fenders were adopted for a more modern appearance, along with a slightly swept back windshield, and individually controlled door vent windows. Today, coach built vehicles of this era embody a classic style that car collectors worldwide cherish as one of the most beautiful in our automotive past. Only 953 Cadillac V12's would be built in 1933 in four body styles making this one of the rarest models in the marque's production during the 1930's.
The beautifully restored 1933 Cadillac V12 370C Town Sedan offered here rides on a 140" wheelbase providing smooth road comfort for all passengers. According to the Cadillac build records, it was special ordered and sold through General Motors Products Co in Oshawa, Ontario, Canada and remains presented exactly as the build sheet indicates to this day. Finished in an all-Black exterior with matching Black fenders, Ivory pinstripe, and Black 17" Kelsey Hayes wire spoke wheels & hubs. It shipped on May 25th, 1933 to be united with its original owner, and today represents one the finest in existence! It was painstakingly restored in true nut-and-bolt fashion in approximately 2010 with nothing left untouched. From a meticulous chassis restoration with all new hardware, fuel system, brakes, and suspension components to a total refurbishment and rebuild of the factory, number's matching drivetrain, it shows as well underneath as it does from above!
The body work and paint finish are simply remarkable, and the interior cabin space is nothing short of perfection! The Brown broadcloth seating upholstery, door panels, and headliner are perfectly stitched. Decorative windlace surrounds all of the door openings, along with refurbished rear passenger assist handles and grab bar. The graining of the wood on the dash and door reveals is perfectly directional, highlighted with superb dark wood inlays! All of the dash instrumentation remains clear and functional, and steering wheel controls are bright and legible. Additional features include 3-speed manual transmission, 4.80:1 rear axle ratio, dual side-mounted spares with beautiful Cadillac-engraved mirrors, jeweled cigar lighters, chrome trumpet horns, dual exhaust system with quad mufflers and decorative exhaust tips, Cadillac hood mascot, rear luggage rack, and BF Goodrich Silvertown 7.50-17 8-ply wide whitewall tires.
This very special example hails most recently from the Gernatt collection. Under his care, it would garner high praise being shown at the AACA Hershey National in 2012 to earn its Junior National First Prize, and later that next year successfully gaining Senior First Prize status. As a CCCA Full Classic, it would be invited in March 2013 to the CCCA Spring Grand Classic in Mt. Dora, FL achieving a score of 99.75/100 points taking a Premier 1st Place in primary production class vehicles from 1933-1936. It is quite an honor considering the competition in this category. It is now has CCCA Senior eligible for all future competitions. Cadillac Motor Company only produced 953 V12 vehicles across all four body models in 1933, making it one of the lowest production years in Cadillac history, particular as a result of the Great Depression. Of those produced, just 172 would become the Town Sedan we have offered here. It is indeed a special car, and the physical & mechanical condition are second to none. It is one you can be proud to own, drive, show, and simply enjoy for the beauty it possesses! It will come with the Cadillac build sheet, two full sets of keys, hubcap removal tool, and lug wrench.
