“In all Cadillac history, there has never been such a perfect blending of quality and practicality as is offered in the 1947 Cadillac Series Sixty-Two.” These were the words with which Cadillac Motor Car Division lured those of sophistication and refinement to its showrooms in 1947—a group of individuals so enamored of the car, that demand far outweighed supply in the post-World War II years. For those who were patient, however, Cadillac promised, “patience never brought … a richer reward!”
Now recognized by the Classic Car Club of America as a “Classic,”—a “fine” or “distinctive” automobile produced in limited numbers and renowned for its high original selling price, built quality, and luxury accessories—this stunning 1947 Cadillac Sixty-Two Sedan has been expertly restored. Finished in Cavern Green with a beautifully contrasting Pinehurst Green roof, this car’s finish has a beautiful luster. Its body was stripped down to bare metal prior to being repainted with a base coat/clear coat finish. Its mirror-like appearance is further accentuated by an abundance of chrome and brightwork that has been re-chromed and polished and shines beautifully.
The fully restored interior of this Cadillac also tells a similar story of luxury and quality. Upon opening the door, you will notice its beautifully restored interior door panels, featuring authentically reproduced walnut graining. This gorgeous walnut applique is also abundant on the dash board and in the rear passenger compartment. The Tan seating areas have been professionally replicated using quality materials and feature contrasting genuine leather cording. The sun visors also feature matching leather trim. Its commanding steering wheel has also been fully restored. The instrument panel is like a work of art, showcasing chrome instrumentation and a working clock and optional radio. You will also appreciate its fully functioning optional heater and defroster. Other features rounding out the option list include a backup light and windshield washer.
Under the hood you will find the original 346 CID flathead V-8 which was professionally rebuilt less than 10,000 miles ago. The engine is mated to the original Hydra-Matic automatic transmission. The transmission was serviced and resealed when the car was restored. Flathead V-8s are renowned for their smoothness and silence, and this one is no different; as has been done many times, you could stand a nickel up on end on the air cleaner when the car is running, and it will stay in place, much to the delight of onlookers.
Having just over 100,000 miles on the body and under 10,000 miles since its complete restoration, this well-maintained car runs and drives as well as it looks. Mechanicals on this car did not go unnoticed at the expense of cosmetics; all systems were evaluated and rebuilt as necessary during its restoration, and restoration receipts and photographs will be provided to the next owner of this car. Also included are historical service records from 1974 to the present. Major mechanical restoration work included the following:
Since its restoration, this Cadillac has been in many shows and has received multiple awards, including the following:
Whether competitively showing or just enjoying it, this Cadillac will not disappoint.
One of the most fascinating items that accompanies this car are several original hand-written letters, dating back to the early 1970s, between past owners that document the history of this car, and what it meant to the families that owned it. These letters even include some written by the original owner’s sister. It is often rare to have full histories of classics of this age, and this provenance provides a fascinating link to persons of the past.
If an award-winning CCCA classic with a captivating provenance is what you desire, look no further than this stunning 1947 Cadillac Sixty-Two.
