1991 Cadillac Seville Additional Info:
The car is in great cosmetic shape, only 67,000 miles. I've babied the thing for the 5 years I've owned it. Regular tune-ups and oil changes.
In the last week alone I've put a new starter, distributor, all new spark plugs and coils ($1200 worth of work) and an oil change. In the last year it's gotten all new fuel injectors (a $1000 job), all new brakes and rotors, two new tires, (rear two need replacing soon), and a lot of other work over the years, replacing everything that goes bad with age, as it sat for 20 years before I bought it with only 18,000 miles.
Here's the kicker. After the latest work I had done, Firestone gave the engine a check and they say they found carbon monoxide coming from the radiator, which probably means a blown head gasket. A big job so this car is probably only for someone who is a mechanic or knows a family/friend who is.
For $500 in parts (estimate) and some sweat equity, you can have a well cared for Cadillac that was $40,000 when it was new. But I'm not ready to invest another $1500+ in fixing the head gasket as I do not have mechanic friends so I would pay a lot of labor cost to make this car perfect again.
I love this car, I hate to see it go. But I just can't afford to spend the money to fix it.
Right now it runs great, no warning lights, no issues. Never been in any accident since it's been in my care. But with the carbon monoxide leak, it is only a matter of time before the engine starts harming other parts of the car and gives up itself, so I'm just going to leave it sitting until someone swoops in with an offer and some know-how and wants to take over the job.
