1958 Cadillac Series 62 Convertible Project Car. Partial body off restoration of a solid South Dakota car. Car is paint code 48 (Tahitian Coral) and had a white convertible top and bronze leather interior. Good “Elvis” colors.
Frame sandblasted/powder coated (have receipts). Frame is exceptionally clean and was not pitted (see photos before body was installed). All front inner fender sheet metal also powder coated black and stored in boxes. Body reinstalled with new body bushings and pads. Body structurally very strong and doors fit/close great. Floors and rockers sandblasted long ago. Floor braces excellent. Passenger rocker has ZERO rust on back side and bottom, and some pinholes on front side (see photo). Driver’s rocker has zero rust on back side, a few rare small holes on bottom below rear window, and some rust at factory seam and rocker molding clip areas (see photo). Floor pans structurally strong but have numerous small holes- needs rear floor pans/partial front floor pans. No rust under back seat. Very minor rust in trunk floor. Nice doors –minor pinholes in driver door lower front corner. Minor pinholes at base of passenger fender. Minor rust in quarters in front of rear wheels (welded metal repair on driver side - red primer).
Original motor was badly cracked/seized and replaced with a 1958 Eldorado Seville 365 motor (tripower code 58H-see Photo 20)- now converted to four barrel. Motor was reportedly rebuilt 16+ years ago and turns easily (signed receipt from seller states rebuilt, but no parts receipts). Transmission also rebuilt but sitting for a long time (have receipt). Radiator is recored and gas tank professionally cleaned. Newly chromed rear window frames, hood fins, front fender “pitchforks.” Very good original chrome on hood molding, door window frames, and vent windows. Needs bumpers rechromed. Long quarter stainless and rocker moldings need buffing/restoration. Bolts, hood hinges, and many other small parts were anodized and are stored in boxes. Rear seat very solid. Replacement front seat is solid. Door panels and trim complete.
The windshield frame was bent when a tree fell on the shop where it was located (Dallas area tornado, 2015). I have a replacement windshield frame with all stainless (Photo 22). Easiest repair is to replace the center section at the factory welds. Amazingly, there was no other storm damage to the car (top bows were not on car and are in good condition). Front header bow has some rust out in front corners). Trunk hinges bent? – do not align properly. Needs complete restoration, including rebuild of the brake system, all cosmetics and described rust repair, all side glass (except vent windows) and windshield, and much TLC. All original convertible parts are present. There are some missing parts – sending unit, long quarter stainless for one side, original rims, starter, 1 rear ash tray, 1 rear power window motor, steering column rag joint, maybe some bolts and fasteners. There are many trim parts wrapped and packed in boxes. I have done my best to make the car complete and would like to see the car fully restored. See last photos showing upholstery, stainless, chrome, extra windshield frame, some front fender well parts laid out on trailer bed (Photos 23, 24).
This is a worthwhile project that will give someone a chance to own and restore an Elvis/Eisenhower Cadillac convertible that could be worth over $100K when completed (see nice body-off restored red 58 Cad convertible on Ebay). Not many H code tripower motors available. Reserve is low. Clear title in my name. Buyer should bring a pickup truck to haul boxed and loose parts. No warranty and car is sold as is. Buyer must arrange shipping. I will assist with pick up. Willing to sell to overseas buyers. Closest port is Houston, TX (about 480 miles south of car location). Check my Ebay feedback, and as Elvis would say, “Thank You Very Much.”
