1970 Buick Skylark Custom
All original including paint!
Up for sale is my 1970 Buick Skylark. I bought the car back in June with plans to put a 455 in it, but now am moving out of town for a job and looking to downsize. I purchased this car from a guy who bought it from the original owner’s estate. I am the second titled owner. This car is located in Scranton, PA.
History:
In 1970, a local pharmacist purchased this car new for his wife from Scranton Buick. The car still retains its original dealer trunk sticker on the trunk lid. They lived near the Poconos, and the wife used the car as her daily driver. Judging from the excellent condition of the undercarriage, this car never saw Pennsylvania winters. The car was re-titled into the husband’s name in 1982, the guy I bought it from believes the wife died around then. After she passed, the car was only driven sparingly for state inspections and oil changes. The car still has its original window sticker. Some options include: Power steering, map light, and trunk light.
Body:
This is a very solid car. The pictures tell the story. The frame, floors, and trunk pan are solid and rust free. It has 103,000 miles and is original paint. It looks more like a 30,000 mile car. The paint still has a great shine to it. The car has small scratches and dents scattered throughout the car. I took photos of every scratch and dent on the car. The rear window leaks under heavy rainfall. The vinyl top is in great shape. The chrome and stainless is in excellent shape throughout the car. This is the nicest original 1970 front bumper I have ever seen. The back bumper has some wear, but is straight and dent free. The grille is in excellent shape. Overall, this is one of the nicest original cars out there. The 14" rally wheels are not original to the car. I have the original rims and hubcaps that are included with the sale.
Mechanical:
This car runs smooth and shifts well. When I bought it, I drove it 45 miles home. Last week I took it to the Buick Club of America 50th Anniversary event in Allentown, PA. The car ran flawlessly throughout the 160 mile round trip, with most of the ride home being in heavy rain. Other than a 1974-75 GM HEI distributor, the drive train is stock. You can fly in and drive it home. I installed new valve cover gaskets, new spark plug wires, and changed the oil. Other than that, all I have done is driven the car.
Interior:
Like the rest of the car, the interior is 100% original including the carpet and floor mats. The dash, carpet, and headliner are all in excellent shape. The Kenora pattern seats have a little wear, but no rips or tears. I’ve only seen one other Skylark with this pattern interior. It is unique. I was told there were only 1,234 Skylarks produced with this interior, but I couldn’t find the production figure to confirm it. The radio does not work. The door panels are perfect.
They are only original once. I took this to a Buick meet with 560 Buicks, and it was the only all original 1970 Skylark there. I encourage and welcome anyone interested to come see the car in person, but please no tire kickers. Please email me any questions you have or if you need more pictures. A non refundable $500 deposit is due within 72 hours of auction’s end. I reserve the right to end the auction at any time.
