This Buick has a fantastic two-owner history that starts on April 27th, 935, hen a Mr. Graham Lacy, r. ordered a 1935 Buick Special 46C Convertible Coupe from Dill-Wood Motor Co. in St. Joseph, issouri. In addition to the car’s base price of $925, r. Lacy, ho was the owner of Tootle-Lacy, local St. Joseph bank, pted for a grease gun, eat covers and tire chains, aising the price to $1138! Mr. Lacy was a successful young man and already owned a sedan; he used this Buick only on the warmest and sunniest of Northwest Missouri days and was stored in a heated garage the rest of the year. Mr. Lacy owned the car until 1990, hen he finally decided to sell it to a Buick collector in the nearby town of Cosby (14 miles away from St. Joseph and with a population of 125). This fellow enthusiast had tried to buy it for years and when he finally got his hands on it, tarted a three year, ull frame-off restoration! Upon removing the body, t was determined to be in splendid condition, testament to the car’s winter storage, nd was reassembled and painted in a fresh coat of Raleigh Blue. All chrome was sent off and redone as well. The interior including rumble-seat was refinished in its original tan leather and a new convertible top was fitted on a restored frame, long with a matching tan boot cover. The interior wood grain throughout the cabin was refinished to appear as new. The original engine was disassembled and completely rebuilt, his time with a 6V alternator replacing the generator. While the radiator was sent off to be recored, he owner decided to install a second brake light, s well as turn signals and new tires. In addition, he trunk was added at this time; it is a period Taylor Made piece with full locking luggage set.
Upon completion, he second owner decided to go touring. It was not an uncommon sight at local and regional shows and cruises, articularly the AACA and VMCCA Glidden events. It is said that 20,000+ miles have been driven since the restoration and the car continues to start, un, rive, hift and stop like new. The car also racked up a number of trophies at shows; many were regional but the car also received the elusive VMCCA Gold Award of Excellence, hich according to the VMCCA requires judging in the 95-100 point range highlighting “appearance, erformance and preservation, ith emphasis on authenticity.”
