1948 Buick Super Convertible Coupe powered by a Cadillac 500 V8 paired with a TH400 three-speed automatic transmission and rear-wheel drive.
The car was restored in California in the early 1990s, and the Cadillac drivetrain is believed to be from the 1970s. It runs, drives, and stops, but it currently has a starter issue and an electrical drain that will need to be addressed. It is not yet ready to be used as a daily driver, but with some additional work, it could make a great weekend cruiser.
The hydraulic convertible top and the power windows are also operational.
Recent replacement parts and work include:
The car is solid overall but still needs some work and has areas of rust consistent with its age. Please review all pictures carefully for its overall condition.
These cars are becoming increasingly difficult to find, especially in convertible form, and have developed a strong following among collectors and custom builders. ICON built a one-of-a-kind 1948 Buick Super Convertible as part of its well-known Derelict series, which was later featured on Jay Leno’s Garage. While this is not the ICON car, that build demonstrates the timeless styling and custom potential of this model.
This is a solid opportunity to finish and enjoy as a vintage cruiser or use as the foundation for a more extensive custom build.
