Up for sale is a RARE 2 door 1961 Buick Skylark Special rat-rod restoration, with a new straight piped exhausted system (complete with two Cherry Bombs)
This classic has been mechanically restored to be in working and driving condition, and has a clean title. Motor runs smoothly with no misses (see video).
The whole exhaust system, brake shoes wheel cylinders, steel and rubber brake lines, master cylinder (drums didn’t need replacing and wheel bearings were cleaned and repacked with new seals), new fuel lines, oil sender, oil filter, fuel pump, spark plugs, coils, headlights, Tail lights, starter, ignition switch, and distributor have all been completely replaced and are like new. New 13” tires, restored red rims, with 4 original Buick Hupcaps. Also comes with newly installed battery kill switch, and battery was bought new in 2020. Original motor, transmission, and rear.
Original seat covers were deteriorated so we cleaned and painted seat springs, replaced the foam rubber, and a Mexican Blanket chosen as the cover fabric, and two-point belts have been installed for all 4 seats. Front seats were in the same condition, and we replaced them with new foam rubber and moving blankets in the hopes of having the seats restored but never got the chance.
Has rust in the normal spots but not excessive (car was never touched since 1982 before we got it, same paint) the patina is original and untouched with only a few small amounts of surface rust. Floor pans are in excellent shape, inside and outside were encapsulated and epoxy painted with Eastwood company product. Comes with new battery and ORIGINAL GLASS windshield Wiper Fluid holder.
The car has been cared for by a Mercedes Benz/Jaguar-Land Rover, and GM mechanic of 44 years since we got it in 2020. Odometer reads 62,788 original miles. Since restoring it a few years ago, it’s only been driven less than 250 miles. There is one small dent in the passenger side door. Please see pictures for the small blemishes in the original paint.
What needs work:
-Cluster needs to be rebuilt or replaced (speedometer, Odometer, gas gauge)
-Needs Vinyl top for roof and small roof repairs (surface rust originally but we painted it Rustoleum white. Roof has one hole, very small, used silicone to plug it up. At C Pillars is the only spot where we had a small amount of rot, since been plugged and sealed as temp repair so it can be driven with no issue)
-Needs cab carpet and front seat covers after roof is fully repaired
-Windshield wipers and wiper motor need to be replaced
This car is an amazing piece of history and is ready as is to use as a grocery getter/sunday driver to cruise around town. Strong motor, great rat-rod, or an excellent candidate for a pristine restoration. Being sold as is, where is, with no guarantee or warranty written or verbally implied. understand that this car is 65 years old with a lot of its original patina- it is NOT pristine, which is why I’m not asking a lot for it- please look closely before purchasing. In interest of full transparency, this car has some surface rust and a couple rust holes (although small), but is working, drivable, a smooth ride rat-rod with a clean title.
