This is a 1972 Buick Skylark Custom that has been completely frame off restored, upgraded and modified into a Gran Sport GSX tribute.The car was a California car it's whole life, and obviously elderly owned by one owner. It was about spotless to start off with, making it a great candidate. The ONLY rust the car had was the trunk pan. It had 3-4 small spots from the trunk weatherstrip leaking and getting water sitting under the mat. I replaced the trunk pan, rather than putting patches in.
So....
Body was completely disassembled and removed from frame. Frame was blasted and repainted satin black. New tubular front control arms were installed and all new brakes on all 4 corners. Body underside was hot water pressure washed and recoated with undercoating. I have progress photos of all the work done.
Exterior body:All chrome trim was removed along with the halo style vinyl top. All molding holes were welded closed. The very clean GS factory hood was bought and installed with the air cleaner. The body was coated in epoxy sealer, bodyworked, primed and then painted with PPG base clear in bright white. The red and satin black stripes are all painted, not decals. The spoiler is a new reproduction. The rear bumper is an original 1971 bumper that has been rechromed. The taillight lenses are new. All the body cushions have been replaced. The front bumper is original. All of the bumper brackets, radiator support, inner fender wells and firewall were blasted and painted satin black. The hood tach is new.
Engine:The original 350 4 barrel was removed. I bought a 1972 Buick 455 engine and completely rebuilt it. It is standard bore and the crank is all standard. I discarded the cast smog heads and replaced them with Edelbrock aluminum heads and intake manifold. There is a cam and lifters installed with similar specs to the original GSX specs. The original quadrajet was rebuilt. The GS aircleaner assembly is installed. The radiator is a 4 core aluminum. There is a high flow electric fan installed. All the factory air conditioning was gone though, repaired as needed and is working well. The transmission is original to the car and has a shift improver kit installed. The rear end has been rebuilt and upgraded with a posi-traction unit with the original 2.76 gear ratio. The car has factory dual exhaust with Flowmasters.
Interior:I replaced the front bench seat with a pair of factory correct bucket seats, which have been all reupholstered with the correct covers and new foam. The rear seat has also been reupholstered to match. The factory correct console and shifter is installed and functions correctly. The car has power windows and locks and even a map light on the rear view mirror. Door trim panels are original. New package tray and carpet. Headliner is original.
The wheels are Cragars, 15".
Everything works on this car and it drives very well. I added a set of gauges on the bottom of the dash, just because the car only had idiot lights. It's turn key, ready to go.
