1976 Buick Other Additional Info:
There's a LOT to discuss regarding this unique car. I meticulously had my hand on every part and put my engineer hat on to restore it!The picture shows this to be the case.
OK...let's get started...
For starters, rest assured that I'm not a kid, hell bent on putting race car parts on a car with over 100,000 miles on a worn engine. I worked for a firms machine shop in the mid '80's modifying Buick V-6's for Grand National racing. (Ruggles Perf. Prod.)
The pictures show a MODIFIED 1976 Buick Skyhawk. It's NOT a RACE car. It's more of a RAT-ROD with different parts from either different vehicles or modified tastefully to work better than SAE standards.
DRIVETRAIN: (Frt to Rear):
ENGINE: a 1966 Buick 300 V-8 (Rebuilt) bone stock w/9:1CR, new TRW cam, lifters, pushrods, Reman. rocker arms, bearings throughout, 'dimpled' piston skirts (better oil impregnation), Conn Rod ear removal, chamfered crank, Range Rover Valve covers, modified stock 2bbl intake to accept larger CFM GM 2bbl, modified Buick V-6 flywheel (reduced weight) and FINALLY, Balance to 1 gram!Hays clutch disc and pressure plate are included w/engine balancing.
Miles on engine: < 50
EXHAUST SYSTEM: Custom built Sanderson Headers w/ceramic coating, custom duals w/Flowmasters, exiting before rear wheels.Miles on Exhaust system: < 10
TRANSMISSION: This is the weak part. It is a Borg Warner T-50 5 Spd.. It is tired, but still functions w/o grinding. Synchros are surprisingly still functional. Trans has 'roughly' 100,000 miles wear.
DRIVESHAFT: Stock U-joints w/ 'zirk' fittings, ROUGHLY < 100 miles. Shaft has 100,000 miles.
DIFFERENTIAL: Stock "H" body housing & axles, w/3.42 ratio and Auburn (GM) posi. Chrome cover. Axel have 100,000 miles.
- NOTE: Since the final drive ratio was a 2.56 (stock) and replaced w/a 3.42, the new owner will have to purchase an ADAPTER that screws between the speedometer cable and transmission. Stewart Warner manufactures these units OR your local speedo repair shop may.
BODY: (Frt to Rear):ENGINE COMPARTMENT: Custom made 3 core radiator cooled by 2 10" elec. fans, Dual oil filter system w/steel braided hosing, oil cooler, Hayden temp sensor (adjustable{fans}), Quik Wire 4x4 harness under hood, 100 amp GM alternator, brand new QUIK WIRE harness. Compartment was sandblasted, primed and painted. HVAC system and blower motor removed.
- NOTE: Manual steering gear is cocked 5-10 deg. for header placement on #1 cyl.. Steering is slightly off kilt, but functional.
INTERIOR: Striped absolutely bare, then sandblasted, primed and painted. Interior HVAC system and ALL duct-work completely removed and firewall sealed.New Quik Wire laid out. ALL 'Idiot lights' removed and replaced w/AutoGage Phantom Gauges. Luan installed on metal framework (covering defroster ducts).Brand new windshield installed. Modified 'Carrier' for gauges. No HVAC switches. Leather installed on dash-pad, repainted dash carrier. Glove box modified for 10 CD SONY player. Arm rest consists of a velor/leather reupholstering and Luan placement over shifter boot.3 way moon/sun roof installed. No more sagging or flaking headliner in this car. It's LUAN (screwed in).
FRONT SUSPENSION: Upper & Lower ball joints in 'decent' shape. Steering components (Tie rods, idler arm & pitman) in 'decent' shape. No SQUEAKING. Somewhat new KYB gas shocks and urethane sway bar bushings in good shape.
SEATS: (frt) Completely disassembled to frame, sandblasted, then primed and painted. Honda Accord 'S' springs installed. Reupholstered seats w/velour (beige) and leather outline. Plastic components painted.
SEATS: (rear) Discarded. This is now a two seater.
DOORS:(r & l) Panels are reupholstered in velour/leather combo. Interior of doors undercoated.
ELECTRONICS: Radio Shack alarm system w/pager alarm 90% installed. Stereo system consists of 14 speaker system. 2-6 1/2 (kick panel), 2-6 1/2 JBL on rear armrest (l & r), 2 tweeters (AC ducts), 2 tweeters (above pass & driver seats), 2-10", 2-5 1/4, & 2- horns located on speaker box face. Speaker box w/ accessible lid, consists of 2 glove boxes from a 1980 Nissan 280 ZX. Passive crossovers are mounted on glove box. 400 watt Mobile Authority Amp installed in box. Radio Shack 7 band EQ and 2 computer fans (switched) are also in box. A Kenwood AM/FM Cassette unit is installed and everything is wired properly. It is LOUD!
Rear part of the car...ALL plastic parts are reupholstered in a velor (beige) finish. Rear deck is carpeted. Rear hatch has Luan installed for that finishing touch!
Entire car is Quik Wired from headlight to tail light and that includes brand new light sockets. Everything works.
DEFECTS REQUIRING ATTENTION:
A dead battery and believe all of this or not, it's 90% finished.
Even though I replaced the pads, brake booster, rear wheel cylinders, distribution valve, rotors and calipers, this car needs serious brake overhauling. I have an extra pair of calipers and brand new brake drums (still in box).
Right passenger caliper froze while driving this home from a storage facility after Hurricane Irma. It was smoking when I got home.Rotor may be scored but repairable w/cut. Front right Centerline wheel fared well, but the air valve rubber seal needs to be replaced. Front 14" tire MAY need to be replaced, due to sidewall cracks.
(Partially done): aluminum strips (hold down trim) should be attached to the urethane pieces over the front & rear bumper.
I'm selling this, because I'm a disabled Vet and getting to old for this! Some young guy can finish and enjoy this toy! It was fun while working on it.
LAST NOTE...If you're interested in this car, I have a TON of extra parts that go w/it, even a small roll around tool box, filled with motor manuals, body by fisher, misc. parts. I have a 3 drawer tool box PACKED FULL with bolts, screws, nuts, washers. I have hoses galore.
FINALLY...there's also a High Output ODDFIRE 231 V-6 engine w/a 10:1cr, highly polished rods, polished and chamfered crank, modified oil ports, New Vandervell cam bearings, New Speed Pro main and conn rod bearings, for any other "H" body project (Vega, Starfire, Monza, Astre, Sunbird). No cam or lifters are included w/this engine. Slightly used (<100 mi.) T&D roller rockers are included for the 231.
- NOTE: I do NOT have a set of valve covers for this engine. IF you decide to use the T&D roller rocker arms, taller covers are required, so CUSTOM valve covers will have to be fabricated.
OH...last minute inclusion...a slightly worn car cover is included!
I will NOT sell any item listed on this sale separately. IT ALL GOES AS ONE PACKAGE DEAL!
Bring a car trailer, ropes or span sets and a few totes! If you got this far...THANKS for reading!
