THIS IS A TRUE BARN/GARAGE FIND. Please read entire description. Look at all the photos. Last photo is of the car in the garage before it was moved. Most questions will be answered. If you still have some, please ask. All the tires were rotten, so I put two real nice used and two new tires on. they are 215/75/R14 which is equivalent to what came on the car. A friend of mine told me about his aunt who was getting older and had a 1970 Buick Convertible that she wanted to sell. After talking to her on the phone we drove to Tempe Arizona to look at the car. This is the information that I got from her. She still had the original Buick dealers window sticker. This is the extras the car came with. Turbo 400 trans, power steering, power brakes, sonomatic radio, rear speakers, evaporative emission system, white wall tires, custom front and rear seat belts, tinted windshield, door guards, remote outside mirror, tilt steering wheel, convenience group (trunk light and sunvisor map light), super sport wheels, protective body side Mouldings, and other items that were standard on the GS 455 2 dr. convertible. In 1970 she and her husband were living in Oregon when he was transferred to Tempe Arizona for his work. "She" decided they would need a convertible for Arizona weather, so they bought a new 1970 Buick GS 455 in February of 1970 just before they moved. It was titled in both their names as "or" so either one was owner. They lived a short time in Winnemucca Nevada while looking for a place in Tempe. The car has spent all but two years of its life in Arizona. Shortly after moving to Arizona, they realized it needed air conditioning and they had the local Buick dealer install it. They drove the car daily until she and her husband divorced in 1982. Because she was the main driver and they always called it her car, She got the car. She retitled the car in her name, then drove the car until 1984. She told me that every time she drove it someone would want to look at it or buy it and she got tired of people bothering her so one day in 1984 she drove it in the garage and never drove it again. Here is what I have discovered about the car. She told me the car had never had any major work on it, just the normal service and maintenance. I could see it had been repainted at some time. She told me sometime in the late 1970's or early 80's someone backed into the passenger door and after 10 years of Arizonia sun the paint was faded, so when the dent in the door was repaired they had the car repainted on the outside. The jams were not done. I took a small magnet all over the complete car and could not find any filler except maybe a small amount below the passenger door lock. I think it may just be heavy primer. This car is one of the cleanest original body cars you will ever see. There are a couple very small door dings and rock chips. There is some surface rust in the trunk floor, and she told me that the trunk seal had started leaking and her husband had purchased a new weather seal, but he never put it in (it is still in the trunk). The UNDERSIDE OF THE CAR IS COMPLETLY RUST FREE. This will save whoever buys it thousands of dollars in rust repair. The front bumper is really nice with no damage or peeling chrome. The rear bumper has some minor dents (see the photos). The gas tank has a scrape on the bottom on the driver's side. Dual exhaust and mufflers look good. All the chrome trim is really nice. Rocker Mouldings are perfectly straight. Left taillamp bezel has a small broken piece, it is plastic and could be repaired. TRUNK- as stated trunk floor has surface rust. the inside of both quarters still have the original spatter finish. The original jack, handle, Red line spare (still holding air) and the tire cover, hold down J bolt and fasteners are there. INTERIOR- Because it sit in a garage in Arizona heat for over 40 years all the seats need upholstery. The carpet needs to be replaced. The dash and sunvisors are excellent. The dash panel looks great with no damage or wear. The door panels are nice with a little warping on the passenger door panel. Passinger door arm rest needs recovered; drivers is good. Both doors lock and unlock, open and close really nice with no sag. Windows roll up and down very easily. Rear seat side panels are excellent. The roof is power and obviously the top fabric needs replacing. It has the glass rear window. I have not put a battery in it and tried the top or any of the electrical items. The boot cover is in good condition but is really stiff, not sure if it would soften up. ENGINE- I am not familiar with how GM did their #'s but it looks like there is a B0E3440 and then what looks like a small b. I have a couple of photos of the #, ask and I will send them to you. After 40 years of sitting the engine is STUCK. I took the plugs out and put oil in the cylinders and let it sit a week. I could not find anywhere to try to turn the engine except the flywheel with a screwdriver and I could not move it. Oil looked good. Radiator is empty. Trans oil looks good. Carburetor looks good and the choke is closed. I think with a little effort and time the engine would come free. GLASS- The windshield has a crack on the drivers side. All the other glass is good. She said she drove it in the garage in 1984 and did not do any long term storage preparation. The fact that this is a ONE OWNER and rustfree car is a big plus. It will save the new owner thousands of dollars in rust repair. This is a car that after you get it running it would be a nice daily driver that you could show on weekends or with minimal time and money it could be a high end show car.
They had to surrender the original Oregan title for the new Arizona title. I have all that paperwork plus the paperwork when she retitled it in her name. A lot of the original Oregon dealer seller's paperwork. Original window sticker, owners manual, I have the original Protect-O-Plate. I have the paperwork with a signed bill of sale to me (I did not want to put it in my name and ruin the one owner status). All paperwork will all go with the car. I have a lot of photos if you want a particular area of the car let me know. Questions, please ask. I think the starting bid is very low, but I am starting it there with NO RESERVE, so everyone gets a chance. $500.00 deposit within 48 hours, balance by wire transfer or cash on pickup. Car is in West Jordan Utah 84084. Buyer is responsible for shipping. I will work with your shippers any way I can. I can also store the car inside for up to 30 days if paid for.
