After winning the Nascar manufacturer's cup in 1981 and 1982, Buick took to naming their new Regal package the Grand National after the Nascar Winston Cup Grand National Series. 1982 was the first year and started off with a 252c.i. 4.1L V6 engine, while some select few were outfitted with a turbocharged V6. With a small hiatus for the 1983 year, Buick came roaring back with an all-black version of the Grand National and it stuck. Turbocharging the 3.8L V6 engine was their staple and it produced power right alongside the base V8 engines the competition was pumping out at the time. Each year the Grand National got quicker, which puts the last model year of 1987, at the top. Sharp lines, boxy features, and interior that ties into the muscle car nature, the 1987 Buick Grand National powered through with 245hp that propelled the car from 0-60mph in 6.1 seconds. Many of the competition's V8 engine couldn't keep up. This example is the epitome of what Buick aimed for in honoring its Nascar win.
