1984 Buick Riviera -- Additional Info:
1984 Buick Riviera / Very Clean / 76,650 documented miles / garage kept For sale is a very beautiful, classic 1984 Buick Riviera which has a very gentle and well cared for 76,650 miles, which are both ORIGINAL and DOCUMENTED on the title. It is clear from the condition of the car this has been pampered since new. It was purchased new at Valley Buick in Monroeville, PA. I purchased it this fall from a retired gentleman who obtained it from his deceased uncle’s estate. He believes his uncle was the original owner. It is evident this car saw little in the way of any inclement weather. No doubt this was a garage kept car. I have the original owner’s manuals, along with the window sticker and build sheets. It is very well equipped. (See picture of window sticker). I would love to keep it, but I have too many cars and need to liquidate a good chunk of my collection (I have 3 other classic cars for sale). This car rarely saw any kind of inclement weather and deserves a home that will care for it properly. Overall, the Riviera is still in beautiful shape. It has a lot of options, such as AM/FM stereo & cassette radio w/ power antenna, power windows/locks/driver seat/mirrors, theft deterrent system, automatic climate control, etc. Overall the car very very clean. It is definitely one of the cleaner cars for having 76k miles, and amazing for its age. The title is clear and has no liens. The title also documents the original mileage. This is an extremely comfortable car, and one of the last years of the classic-styling and V-8 powered Riviera’s. The car runs and drives beautifully and I’m sure it would go across country effortlessly. See the description below for further details. Exterior: The paint is a beautiful blue metallic. It still retains a nice luster and reflects the fact it was garage kept, although there is some minor checking on the roof and trunk upon close inspection. I believe the paint is all original except I think the hood was repainted at one point many years ago, probably a warranty job at the dealer due to many problems GM cars had with their paint in the 80’s. The paint work was no doubt professionally done, perhaps by the Buick dealer. Any dings (if any) and scratches are minor. The chrome and the stainless steel also shine brilliantly. The factory locking wire hub caps are beautiful and have very little flaws. The exterior is very pretty and is obvious of the care it has received. The underbody is solid, with only minor surface scale…evident that it saw very little inclement weather in its 33 year life. No evidence of any accidents. All bumper fillers were replaced last year and were professionally painted/installed. Exterior flaws are minor. At the risk of making car sound worse than it is, I will disclose the following, although again, these are not items that stand out, in my opinion. In fact, I owned the car for several weeks before I even noticed these issues (see pics): The vinyl top has held up well, but there is some discoloration, perhaps from chemicals used on the vinyl over the years. It is not real noticeable unless you look for it. If weather was warmer I would have re-dyed the top. It’s a fairly easy job and not costly. There is a small scrape on top of the right corner of the rear bumper, and the right rear wheel opening molding has a dent on the stainless trim. The only rust on the body is a tiny amount of surface rust directly above the lower front fender moldings, and minor surface rust under the doors. See pics. Interior: The interior is very plush, having very comfortable and soft cloth seats, which feel, look, and smell brand new. It was obviously NEVER smoked in. Cigarette lighters were never used. There are no rips, stains or holes in the upholstery. The factory carpets are in great shape, and probably were covered with other mats over the years….they are definitely nicer than most cars with >50k miles. The headliner does not sag and is like new. The dash has no cracks, same with arm rests. The power equipment goodies all work, even the power antenna! I should mention that the radio sometimes loses reception on an intermittent basis. It might work for several days without issue, but then all of a sudden it will act up where the reception “flickers” on and off, and then it seems to be fine. The tape player still works well. Everything else works like a charm. I should mention there is an unusual series of small tears toward the top of the passenger side seat belt, but the wool sleeve covers it up. I have no explanation for it. Mechanical: The motor purrs like a kitten and is very smooth. The motor is the tried and true 5.0 liter (307) 4 barrel engine. It is both economical and reliable. The transmission shifts smooth as it should. A/C still blows good cold air, and was recently converted to the new style R-134, along with a new compressor. All 4 Dunlop tires match and are almost new; they are smooth at highway speeds without any shakes or shimmies. The exhaust was also recently replaced. Same with the valve cover gaskets. Oil was recently changed as well as a new thermostat. I have driven the car several hundred miles and it rides and drives absolutely amazing. The steering is tight and brakes are smooth. No leaks anywhere to my knowledge. This baby runs beautifully and is ready for the local cruise in! Overall: If you are looking for a well-cared for example of the last of the traditional V-8 Riviera’s, this one’s for you. This Riv is definitely one of the cleaner ones around. This car is so nice, that most people might say the car is “perfect” or “flawless”. The average person may describe it as such-- but for a car collector, there’s never anything 100% perfect unless it was restored. As such, this car was never restored and has over 76,000 miles. Therefore it has some minor flaws as mentioned in the description. I have sold numerous cars on eBay and in all situations I had positive feedback. I attempt to describe each vehicle as accurately and honestly as possible and I do not think you will be disappointed. As with anything, if you desire to bid on the vehicle, I would encourage you to see it physically and drive it for yourself before you bid. I would not be afraid to drive this car across the country. It runs and drives excellent and will make a very nice classic for you.
