At the time the M6 was the fastest car BMW ever built next to the M1, with a top speed of 158 mph. Purchased new in Hyde Park, New York, this car has been under the care of just 4 owners over its 35 year history and is in excellent condition throughout. Finished in the appealing color of Royal Blue, the BMW M6 was known for its quintessential 1980s angular design which earned it the nickname of The Shark thanks to the pointy front end. The deep metallic blue paint gives the car a dignified appearance and is in very nice shape and has had some paintwork carried out over the years. Originally, the BMW M6 was fitted with BBS Basket-Weave wheels with a fitment for Michelin TRX tires which have become remarkably difficult to source. Thankfully, this example benefits from a more modern set of 17 BBS Style-5 Basket-Weaves not only look the part but accept a whole range of modern performance tires for improved ride and handling. The interior is covered in beige leather on nearly every surface that presents in absolutely exceptional condition. As the M6 was one of the most expensive vehicles available from BMW at the time, they went to town covering not just the seats but the center console, door cards and more in supple, hand stitched leather that gives the interior an upscale look and feel. Over time, the leather on the center console and doors can become tired looking but in this example, it has clearly been properly cared for and looks nearly new. The 2+2 coupe was one of the first cars to offer multi-zone climate control with separate vents in the rear with temperature controls for the rear seat passengers. Powering the E24 chassis M6 is BMWs famed S38 inline-6 engine. This engine is largely similar to the M88 in Europe that BMW fitted to the M1 supercar as well as numerous successful race cars in the 1970s and 1980s. Displacing 3.5 liters, the S38 featured dual overhead camshafts and individual throttle bodies which helped the M6 produce 256 horsepower and 243 lb-ft of torque which was good for a top speed in excess of 150 mph at the time. This engine is connected to a 5-speed manual Getrag gearbox that sends power to the rear wheels through a limited slip differential. This car has been treated to some thorough mechanical sorting over the past few years that includes all new brakes, control arms and sway bar links in June of 2023 as well as a new clutch within the last 4,000 miles. There was no better way to show that you had made it in the 1980s than pulling up in a BMW M6 and even still, the car has an amazing presence on the road and will draw loads of attention. In contrast to many other classic cars, the M6 still feels fast and refined and would be just as happy as a weekend car or a daily driver with its cold air conditioning and exceptionally comfortable seats. If you have always wanted to put a Shark in your garage, you will be hard pressed to find a better looking example than this!
