1988 BMW 3-Series 325is Additional Info:
You are bidding on an extremely rare 1988 BMW 325is coupe. This 3-series 'is' model is currently appreciating and is a good investment which is rare for a car. This is my baby and I have slowly been restoring this black beauty to her original glory. I have invested a lot of time and money into this project, but have to let it go after my wife and I had our second child recently. I hope she finds a new home where someone will finish this project. The 325is is originally a Georgia car and its body is in immaculate shape for an '88. It has all original paint. It is in excellent mechanical condition. This M20 motor runs strong and has no oil leaks. The vast majority of work done on this vehicle has all been in the last year, and I have receipts from my local shop to show it. Most of the parts were purchased through FCP Euro, have a lifetime warranty, and are genuine BMW or OEM replacements. All service has always been performed on time. It has always been stored in a climate controlled garage and has seen no snow or salt, and hardly any rain for that matter.
Here is what I have done so far:
- Replaced 1988 chrome bumpers with the way better looking 1989 bumpers- Replaced the original, sloppy steering rack(4 rotations lock to lock) with a BMW Z3 steering rack (2.8 rotations lock to lock) with a kit from Zionsville Autosport.- Replaced power steering pump with genuine OEM replacement- Replaced front tie rods and bellow boots with genuine OEM replacement- Replaced clutch and flywheel (by previous owner)- Replaced air conditioning compressor, a rare option on a 1988, with a genuine OEM replacement- Replaced blower to get all that cold air from the new a/c compressor into the cabin, also a genuine OEM replacement part- Replaced oil pan gasket, valve cover gasket, and oil filter adapter gasket with genuine BMW parts from FCP Euro
- Replaced radiator and fan with genuine OEM replacement parts- Replaced radio antenna (used replacement) and sealing garment with genuine BMW part- Original 'basket weave' wheels were refinished with a black semi-gloss powder coat application by the best shop in the area (lots of prep time to get these exactly right)- New Hankook Kinergy ST 195/60R14 tires on all four corners (hard to find good sport tires for this original rim)- Replaced full spare tire- New Interstate battery- Installed Bilstein sport dampers and Eibach lowering springs on all four corners- Installed new mounting brackets for rear sway bar- Installed M3 shifter assembly- Added M Sport front floor mats
Here are the remaining things that I was planning on doing to the car:
Exterior- Replace driver's side quarter panel with an original one (slight parking lot damage from car unknown)- Replace sunroof panel with an original one (small rust holes)- Install bumper inserts and light reflectors into the 1989 bumpers
Interior- Install new dash- Reupholster seats- Install new headliner and carpet- Install new shifter boot- Install new glove box panel- Install new panel under the steering column- Install new head unit- Refurbish original gauge cluster (currently a spare unit is installed so I could drive it safely to the shop a mile away from my house, this was my next step in the project)
I will be throwing in some parts that have been replaced on the car because they could be refurbished in the future. Parts can sometimes be hard to come by. I also have a couple parts that would be useful or look cool in the future. Here is a comprehensive list of parts that I will include:
- Original gauge cluster- Two (2) replacement radio head units- Original clutch assembly and flywheel- Original a/c compressor (really hard to find)- Original stock steering rack- Euro license plate holder
This car has a classic 1988 MI plate on it, and is registered for the rest of its life in Michigan as a classic vehicle. Most states have a similar program. You should be able to transfer this plate for a small one-time fee. No more registration fees!
Free local pick-up. Feel free to set up shipping into a warmer climate on this one. :)
Don't hesitate to contact me with any questions. I have additional videos and pictures upon request. Thanks!
