1991 BMW 3-Series Additional Info:
Hello Ebay,
In 2015 I purchased this 1991 BMW 318i Cabriolet. I bought it because I wanted a fun weekend cruiser. Fast forward to a few weeks ago and I purchased a Z4 to replace the 318i. Given that I now have three cars sitting around and I hardly have time to drive for pleasure, it saddens me to say that I am ready to part with the E30. This has been the most reliable old-used car I have ever owned. I have a small stack of service records from my ownership period, including a owners PPI from 2017.
Details on car:
- 1991 318i Cabriolet M42 motor
- Alpine white
- A few dings, nothing major normal wear and tear
- 144,xxx original miles
- 5-speed manual transmission
- Power windows
- Power mirrors
- Heated seats
- 99.9% crack free dash minus a tiny little one that you can't see that has not gotten any bigger
- 99% crack/rip free faux leather seats minus the top of the rear seat cushions
- 99.9% rust free minus 3-4 tiny spots that are not cancerous
- Clutch in great condition, middle travel engagement point, unknown when it was last changed
- Transmission shifts smooth with no noises or clunks
- All original engine and transmission
- Clean title, I believe I'm the third owner and title in hand
- Aftermarket alarm
- Aftermarket stereo deck with AUX input
- Everything in the car works, nothing is broken
- Soft top is in decent shape, but the rear plastic window needs Jesus. I never fixed it as I don't drive the car in the rain.
Recent services since I've owned it include:
- Thermostat and housing, air idle control valve module
- Oil changes w/ 20W-50 Total Racing Oil full synthetic
- Coolant
- Cam Sensor Seal
- New tires @141,000 miles
- Several problem free SMOG checks
- Brake fluid flush
- Bilstein B8 Performance Plus Sport Shocks (Brand New Strut Mounts, Spring pads, Shock gasket, Shock Mount)
- Brand new ST Suspension Sports Springs, Part #: 65267 specific for the E30 318i Convertible + balance/alignment
- New battery
- Transmission fluid flush
+ others that I lost the receipts for. Oops.
Things the car needs from 2017 PPI courtesy of German Auto Sport:
- Upper oil pan gasket shows wet, should replace
- Rear of transmission shows wetness, should reseal
- Brake sensors are looped
- Breather hose from air boot to air distribution is cracking
- Power Steering fluid flush reccomended
- Inner control arm boots should be replaced
- Rear subframe bushings should be replaced
- Differential bushing should be replaced
- Driveline flex disc is installed backwards and should be reversed
Attached are several photographs which I think will show you just how good of a condition this vehicle is in for its age.
I am looking to sell this car to an enthusiast and I will wait however long it takes for the right combination of price and buyer. Take a look on bring a trailer, craigslist, or whatever other forums are local in the Bay Area and you will be hard pressed to find another E30 M42 318i 5-spd convertible in this good condition. There were only 1,640 of this specific combination produced according to Hagerty and BMW.
