1988 BMW 5-Series Additional Info:

1988 BMW 528e – repairable, restorable or a great parts car. The car currently runs and drives, solid ride, handles very well, lots of fun to drive. The transmission shifts smoothly.

Car was purchased from the original owner in August 2005 with 121,680 miles on it.

Used primarily as an extra car for visiting guests and going to the beach. Driven about 3000 miles a year from the time it was purchased in 2005.

Interior is in excellent condition. Original vinyl seats have no tears. Carpeting has been covered since the car was new. All interior components are in excellent condition except for the dash board cracks.

There is no radio. The air conditioning works perfectly. Most all accessories are in working order except for the front & back power function for the front passenger seat and the power head rests for both seats. The power windows work but the motors are getting weak. Sunroof works including the tilt function. The engine runs great but needs service (a good tune up, oil change and filters). The engine is 122hp, same one used in the 1988 BMW 3 series. The “e” in 528e stood for economy. Gets 30 mpg on the rare times it wasdrivenon the highway.

The factory tool kit, tire jack, owner’s manual, the original purchase documentation and the original spare (used once) are all there.

The paint is faded and the car has rust issues

Bottoms of both front fenders (see pics)

Bottom of the passenger side rear door (see pics)

Inside the trunk next to the spare tire wheel well. (see pics)

Inside the trunk a rust through point along the top fender under the weather stripping .

Drivers side rear bumper. The mounting area is rusted.

Mechanical needs

Developing exhaust leak at the front before the exhaust header

Brake pedal is mushy

Gas tank was replaced with a used one but can only be filled up a little under 3 quarters of the way or there is a gas smell. I think it may be the filler pipe or a vent. It really needs a new tank.

If someone were to address the mechanical issues and cut out and fix the rust in the trunk and bumper areas this car would be an excellent runner.
