I purchased in 2017, went through the whole car, replaced or refurbished a number of systems. I’m not a dealer but a hobbyist who’s been refurbishing cars for 30+ years for fun. 1 at a time, just me.
Car runs and drives very well. I drive it about 4 times a week. Mileage is approximately 124,000 miles. Carfax reflects approximately 110k miles. Previous owner told me 123,121 so I went with the higher. Engine has smooth power, shifts smooth and sure. Clutch is just right with no heaviness or engagement problems. Suspension feels tight tracks straight. Car has not been in any accidents. No clunks or knocks in the suspension, drives over bumps smooth. All lights work, headlights do not wobble (adjusters were given attention), taillights have no cracks like most have. All interior lights work. Leather seats have no tears or rips and seat motors work fine. I installed a center arm rest in the place of the old cell phone location. All windows work just as intended as do the door locks & sunroof. Air Conditioning is cold and works as intended. Radio and CD changer are in working order as is the multi-message display. There are no burned pixels in any display. Headliner is clean and in good shape. No Sagging in any location. Both A-pillar covers have been replaced new as well as C-pillar covers. Package tray has been removed and recovered, newBMW speaker grills installed as well as a newrearseatbelt cover. New lighted leather shift knob was installed as well as a new leather shift boot. New Lloyds floor mats as well. All exterior lights work as intended, Fogs, headlights, high beams, turn and tail.
In the engine area the DK motors have been refurbished and replaced. New PCV valves and hoses were installed. Most fuel lines have been replaced as well as fuel vapor and vacuum lines. There are no fuel smells as is a common issue in these cars. Oil change (synthetic) was performed, Oil, cabin & air filters replaced. New plugs, new Bosch 02 sensors installed. MAF’s cleaned.
New drilled and slotted rotors from ECS tuning were installed all around along with EBC Redstuff pads. M-Parallel wheels were installed from an E38 and have the correct hub size for the E31. Rides on Sumitomo 255/35/18 fronts and 285/30/18 rears. Tires have about 1k miles on them.
Body is in good shape, a few small dings but barely noticeable. No rust anywhere that I could locate.
What’s still needed: Paint, it looks passable from 20 feet but the clearcoat is flaking in places and foggy in others. Re-index steering wheel or alignment, wheel is not centered but drives straight and true through 80+mph. Tape player doesn’t work. Radio and CD changer do but won’t accept a tape. SRS light needs to be reset. Odometer reads mileage but reverts back whenever it’s turned off. I keep track of mileage via the trip odometer. Previous owner told me it had 123,121 miles. I’ve put on about 1k since. All minor things but haven’t gotten around to fixing yet.
There’s lots more that’s been refurbed or “addressed” but you get the idea that it’s been gone through. I’ve spent more than 5k on BMW parts in the last year and have receipts for every part. New owner will get an electronic copy of all. Original manuals and service booklet are present and will go with the car.
Great car with a reasonable reserve. Wish I could keep it but time to move on and find another project. With CSI’s reaching 100k plus this is a great alternative. These cars are becoming more and more desirable and especially a low production 6 speed.
I may be selling locally as well so I reserve the right to end the auction early. Winning bidder to provide 1k deposit within24 hours of auction end and remaining balance within 7 days of close of auction.
