1972 BMW 2002 tii Additional Info:
This 1972 BMW 2002tii classic has a sunroof and a five speed transmission. This 1972 BMW 2002tii (roundie) is rust free and in excellent condition,in and out. A major restoration has recently been completed. I believe it is a third owner car, with about 118,000 miles. I have owned the car since January 1982, but it has been the typical "garage queen" until about two years ago, when a complete restoration was started.
The engine and transmission were removed along with the front and rear suspension sub-assemblies. The floor pan was inspected with only a few minor surface rust spots found; they were sanded out, treated and primed. Undercoat was applied to the body pan and fender wells for preservation and sound dampening. The front and rear sub-assemblies were cleaned and inspected, and new bushings and mounts were installed. The old suspension springs were replaced with Eibach performance springs, which lowered the car one to two inches, and new KYB gas adjust shocks were installed. The braking system was rebuilt with a new master cylinder, remanufactured front wheel calipers, new rear wheel cylinders, and new brake hoses, pads, and shoes. The sunroof seals and gaskets were replaced, and the sunroof adjusted. The car has new Pirelli 185/70 tires on Ronal Racing rims. The tires were installed a few years ago,and have less than 100 miles on them. The car has been on jacks most of its life, from 1982 until restoration started, and then kept on jacks until ready to run.
The original 2002tii engine was more complex, with the Bosch/Kugelfischer MFI system, than I wanted to deal with. A 1980 BMW 320i engine was rebuilt with performance specs. The 320i engine was bored out .040" (1.2mm) oversized to receive new maxsil 9.5 to 1 compression ratio pistons from Bavarian Motorwurks. The crankshaft was inspected. magnafluxed and polished, and new rod and main bearings installed. The cylinder head was cleaned and inspected, and a racing valve job completed. To complement the pistons, a Howard 280 duration camshaft, dual Weber 45 DCOE carburetors, an MSD ignition system, a stahl racing header, a new radiator core, an electric fan, and a 1980 320i five speed transmission were installed. For the purist, the original 1972 BMW 2002tii engine, the original owner handbooks (3) a Haynes shop manual, and an enlarged electrical diagram, along with a few other vintage BMW parts, come with the purchase of the car.
The front and rear seats received new upholstery, and a new headliner was installed, along with all new carpets, including the luggage compartment. Door and window seals were replaced, and a new Astro Blue paint job was given the car (window/glass out), replacing the original faded and primer spotted maroon paint.
With age my priorities have changed, and it is time to give up my favorite toy, and clean out the garage (bosses orders). Here is your chance to own a truly great vintage classic. This is a No Reserve auction beyond the initial starting price. The winning bidder must deposit $1,000.00 within 24 hours, with the remainder due within seven days. The car will be sold As is, Where is. Please ask your questions, or do your inspection before bidding. The buyer is responsible for shipping, but I will assist as possible in loading. I am available for questions via the ebay mail service. This car deserves a good home. Good luck bidding.
