1973 BMW 3.0CS Additional Info:
always loved the look of the BMW 3.0 but was not impressed with the horsepower. decided to restore one and upgrade the engine. my former mechanic convinced me that the engine from an M3 would be the ideal choice. we found and installed the engine and transmission from a 2006 M3, removed all the rust from all the panels, re-painted in a beautiful black, completely restored the interior including a custom console, added wilwood brakes, installed new nitto tires, added bbs wheels, replaced all the rubbers, installed new steering wheel, and so on. i have over $90k invested in this car and, as you can see from the photos, it is beautiful. it draws admirers like a magnet.the car has a few minor issues as it was never finished - missing plastic hood grille, rear fender lights stay on all the time, needs some wire management, etc - and one major issue - the M3 engine was apparently the wrong choice. the car runs great in straight line but has issues turning, especially in tight spaces. i took it my new mechanic and he believes the issue is related to the way the suspension lines up with the replacement engine. he tells me the way to fix the issue is to replace the engine with an original 3.0 cs engine or upgrade it with an engine/transmission from a 1987-88 M5 or 1987-89 M6. after almost 4 years, several different mechanics and a pile of money, i've lost the will to continue. reserve is very low to cover the value of the items i believe still have value - i.e. the M3 engine/transmission, the BBS wheels, the new tires.
car is available for inspection and driving in phoenix, az.
