This is a 1972 BMW 2002tii in rare Atlantik dark blue.

...................
This car starts and drives great, has a great gearbox and supple suspension.
The paint, while not flawless is very nice. It has been skillfully resprayed with the original color.
The usual cracks in the dash are not there, I believe the dash has been replaced prior to my possession of this car.
I have had it for about 2.5 years. It is a nice driver grade car that has some needs that I will list below.
THE GOOD
All numbers match
Unmolested engine starts and runs strongly.
Gearbox shifts smoothly
No noise or problems from the rear end
Suspension is excellent
Paint is very good but does have some defects.
Chrome all in place and in good shape, with the drip rails uninstalled.
Interior is presentable and in good shape.
Headliner excellent
Ansa exhaust in good shape with good sound
Brakes excellent
Factory alloy wheels in good shape but not perfect
Clear title in hand.
THE BAD
Most of the bad involves electrical issues I have not had time to attend to.
Nonfunctional but present: radio, wipers, horn, A/C
Have not tried washers or heater so I don't know about them
Dash has an odd small crack in front if the steering wheel (pictured in PhotoBucket album), not a usual 02 crack
Clock is included but not installed, I doubt it works.
Seats are original with recovers that have a mismatch of color, smooth part to weave part. They are a bit overstuffed and oddly, they are both passenger seats! I'm shaking my head over that.
Odometer is incorrect and comically cycles on the tenth of a mile rather than the mile so the numbers go up quickly!
Carpets are in good shape, gray while the door panels and seats are tan, incorrect.
The doors require a pretty stout slam to close properly as is common with 02s.
Door panels are complete but loose.
THERE HAS BEEN SOME RUST REPAIR IN THE ROCKERS AND THE FLOOR.
Some door trim is loose.
Steering is quite loose on center.
There is a defect in the roof where it looks like a small limb may have fallen on the car, pictured in PhotoBucket album. The drip rail on that side is distorted, probably why the chrome was removed prior to my ownership.
The chrome rain gutters are not installed, I bought them new and they are included with the car.
The car leaks a small amount of oil. Seems all my cars leak a little oil...
It never needs oil top up between oil changes.
Pedal box is rusty, see PhotoBucket album.
Tires are cheapies but with decent tread. This car wants the new owner to buy some nice Michelin repros from Coker. Front left has a slow leak and requires some air about once a month.
No tools or books. Spare tire is present. Actually I bought a tool set that supposedly is original but I'm not sure. Included.
Probably a bunch of other defects as well. It's a driver!
THIS IS NOT A #2 CAR! IF YOU WANT A #2 or #1 CAR KEEP LOOKING. THIS IS AN ATTRACTIVE DRIVER, NOTHING MORE THAN THAT. IT IS NOT A #2 CAR ($35,000) OR A #1 CAR ($50-55,000).But it does have matching numbers if someone wanted to take it up a notch or two.
THE UGLY
Before I owned the car, it appears it was hit in the rear. There is irregularity of the INSIDE of the trunk lid as though body work has been done. The bright side is the body work was done with a lot of skill, I can't tell what has been repaired and what has not, even with close inspection.magnet sticks to everything, even the rocker panels. There has been RUST REPAIR as described above as well as UNREPAIRED pedal box which is rusty (common with 02s)
THE BOTTOM LINE
This is a nice driver grade car that draws a lot of comments. The dark blue is particularly suited to this body style. It is not a show car! The defects are manageable and it would not take a lot of effort to take it to the next step. This is not a show car!
This is not a pristine perfect unicorn that you get for the price of a #3 car! You're just not that lucky!
It's a driver. A very pretty car but a driver!
ABOUT ME
I am a 59 year old urologist living in Spartanburg SC. I have perfect feedback on eBay because I treat people fairly and try hard to describe items very openly. I have sold numerous cars and motorcycles on eBay and have 100% positive feedback without a single neutral or negative. I gave no intention of getting crossways with anyone, life is too short.
This is my 4th 2002. I have always adored these cars.

Hemming did an article about one of my other 2002s, again eBay will not allow a link so I can email you a link....
Or Google "Hemmings Memory Lane Memory Maker 2002"

While we are at it, they did an article about another one of my cars, here:

I always start my auctions at ONE DOLLAR WITH NO RESERVE. People think that is foolish but eBay has such a large audience that I think the items find their correct price.
I will not end the auction early. I will not respond to any communication asking for a "buy it now" price. That is not fair to the other bidders. This car will sell on this auction to the highest bidder.
I cannot sell the car to Canada or outside the US. I did that once with a Boxster and there were numerous problems.
DESPITE WHAT EBAY SAYS IN THIS AD I WILL NOT SHIP OUTSIDE OF THE CONTINENTAL USA.
I will require non refundable $1000 deposit within 48 hours, PayPal preferred but FedEx cashier check is OK.
Remainder cashier check or wire transfer within 7 days. Wire transfer is preferred as there are good quality fake cashier checks out there.
This is a 45 year old car. There is no warranty. That would be silly.
This car is sold AS-IS WHERE-IS. I did my best to describe its many faults. I am sure your inspection will find others. The car is available all week for inspection. Inspect it and bid accordingly.
IT IS NOT AVAILABLE AFTER THE AUCTION FOR THE WINNER TO DECIDE WHETHER HE WANTS IT. This gets tiresome.
The car is in Spartanburg SC about ten miles from the intersection of I-26 and I-85.2.5 hours to Atlanta, 1 hour to Charlotte. Inspection and test drive welcomed and encouraged. Please inspect during the auction, NOT AFTER YOU WIN!
