1974 BMW 2002tii one owner California car. I first saw this tii in 1974 in LA. My friend actually had a 73 and a 74 at that time and that was my introduction to BMW's. I ran into this car again in 2013 when I was visiting friends. In Early 2015 the owner passed away and I bought the car from his family with the intention of restoring it.Its a really nice unmolested car and will turn into the high dollar machinethat everyone is after.
I just had the drive line rebuilt, put in a new starter and replaced the steering column as the lock had frozen. Started right up a couple of days ago after sitting in the barn all winter, covered. Idle is a bit rough but smoothes right out when its warm. I have the hard to find tii rotors NIB, along with pucks and bearings for the front along with new strut towers. Full set of injector fuel lines and I just put new “O” rings in the injection pump. Has a new thermostat and temp sending unit is on the dash but the unit works now. Instruments all OK, FASTEN SEAT BELTS comes on on cue. Headliner is dirty, original period RECARO seats. Bottoms are gone and I have new more modern fittings to repair the seats from Ardvarck. The metal hangars are fine but the straps are short so some seat belt material sewn will put the seats back. It appears there is a BMW serial number on the seat adapter for the RECAROS but I cannot be certain. The owner did have the presence of mind to hit the hood and trunk lid with a good shot of primer over the thin original paint, there is some surface rust but a dime brought up bright metal so I consider the car to be really rust free except for minor surface rust, there may be an area on the drivers side rear quarter up high where that little patch of red duct tape is. There was a raised spot there and I opened it but the metal is intact to my knowledge. In the pictures of the engine compartment the front lip of the hood where the molding fits is in good shape and that is one of the first things to go on these low nickel steel cars.
Rear seat is in original upolstery, blue, the springs are tired it appears that the rear window leaked a bit at some point and the springs and the horse hair backing are tired. Seat cover is there and the seat could be fixed easily. All the panels are in great shape inside.
This really is an exceptional 2002 tii and a great start on getting great showable car. It needs all four rear axle bearings and seals replaced along with a new transmission 4 finger flange. One finger on the original is beat up, new guibo and the driveline is in and works just needs these fixes to quiet the car down. Rear end and transmission appear fine, I put in new bushings in the shifter and have another set in the package. That flange is on ebay for $45 so buy that too, not my listing but you will need that even if you decide the 320i 5 spd is what you want, or you will have to change the driveleine
I am reluctantly selling this to fund a new engine for my 37 Ford Tudor Humpback. Just something about 400 horses and a modern chassis under the old cars that I love.
I am a BMW guy and have had them all from the 750il to the M cars. Please ask questions. No reserve on this one and I am hoping for a fair buy on a great start of a tii.
Clear Cailifornia title.
