1988 BMW 3-Series Additional Info:
Now a classic, or near-classic, I bought this car in 1989 from a dealer strictly for fun. A doctor owned it prior to me. It had 11,831 miles when I bought it, and has 38,000 today. I've driven it an average of 1000 miles each year. It is fantastic fun to drive on a sunny summer day, but I never seemed to have enough time to enjoy it, and I have even less now.
This car has been superbly cared for throughout its life - some say I "baby" it. It was never used for day-to-day travel, was never taken out in the winter (and rarely in the rain), was never stored outside, and was never parked within door-ding range of other cars. There has never been any smoking in this car.
The convertible top is not electric, but is fast and easy to retract, and the hinge mechanism folds it and guides it into a compartment behind the rear seats. I have been extremely careful with the flexible rear window that is sewn into the convertible top because it can mar or scratch more easily than glass. Despite that it has a few imperfections, but they do not restrict rear-view visibility.
I replaced the tires in the summer of 2014, and they have less than 500 miles on them. My mechanic replaced the timing belt in at 31,000 miles, and a new battery was purchased in December of 2012. I use a "battery saver" to keep the battery charged throughout the winter, and start and warm up the engine periodically in the winter just to circulate the fluids. It gets an oil change and new filter every spring, regardless of how few miles were driven.
I have the BMW brochures for the 1988 3-series and they can provide additional details and specifications. I would be happy to answer any questions by way of email.
