1988 BMW 5-Series 535i E28 Additional Info:
True 2nd owner, has 130k miles (I replaced the cluster with one that has 249k with broken gears as my SI board went bad) I got it with 100k miles and have owned it for 4 years. The previous owner bought it straight off the boat in Texas, and had its life there until 2002, when the previous owner became a congressman and moved it to DC, which is where I bought it.
Pros:
Runs fantastic, never let me down anywhere at anytime.
Rebuilt alternator from a shop in Indy with new voltage regulator.
Brand new $200 battery (ouch) and still has warranty.
Interior is in fantastic shape, no one has ever sat in the rear.
Body is straight, but has a small amount of dings, but not too shabby.
Replaced every single brake component with OEM parts, has new lines, calipers and pads, and had the rotors resurfaced. Stops at a dime (all break parts have warranty as well)
Refreshed every single driveline bushing, starting from engine all the way back to diff mounts. OEM guibo, center support bearing and nut, had absolutely no shaking during accel.
All the shifter bushings were replaced, except for shifter, as it still has some slop due to the non serviceable shifter bushing being worn.
All fluids replaced, new oil change, plugs, distributor. And diff oil change.
Comes with a lots of extra parts, as explained in the cons.
New clutch as of 3 years ago, shifts excellent.
Aftermarket head unit that has aux and works great.
Adult driven, owned and maintained.
Very little rust except for the front passenger fender and above license plate.
Comes with all around door weatherstripping in trunk, never installed.
Cons:
Has a small rust spot in the passenger fender, but the car will come with an extra set of red front fenders with the sale.
Windshield is cracked, but comes with an extra amazing OEM windshield.
Front wheels must be rebalanced, as the brake job required me to take all wheels off.
Heater blower motor squeals, but comes with an extra one.
A/C needs to be recharged, but still blows at all 3 settings.
Shark fins are missing, but comes with an extra red set that needs to be installed.
Exhaust leak which developed during the 1st ownership, as it has an aftermarket exhaust that is rust free.
OBC bulb is out, but still works fantastic.
Brake lining light is on, because I did not need to buy the wear sensor (college student haha)
Front bumper is cracked, but comes with an extra nice and shiney complete bumper assembly.
Rust under the license plate light, but everything is in order and still lights up.
Oil light is on because I accidentally nicked the line when replacing the engine mounts.
Wheels has some rash, and one has a significant hit due to a drunk driver incident.
If I wasn't moving out of the country, I would keep her, but sadly have to sell her. She has been well maintained over her life, and would have no worries driving her anywhere. I have driven her to DC and back various times, went to Chicago and other far lands with no concerns.
Cracked dash, small gash, and the driver seat has a small rip along seam
Also comes with a bucket of extra bosh parts, which includes ignition and other expensive parts.
If you live in an inspection state, she will pass no problem, as I have had her on a D.C. Registration for 3 years that requires inspection.
It really pains me to do this, as it has been a part of my life for more than 4 years, but for $4500 OBO, clean title in my name and all the extra parts seems like a reasonable price. Call or text anytime.
