1973 BMW 2002 Tii Inka Orange Additional Info:
1973 BMW 2002 Tii factory original Inka orange survivor car. Strong running, numbers matching engine with 5 speed transmission conversion. Mileage on the odometer reads 47,152 but I do not know if that is accurate. An extensive album of 80 pictures is available on photobucket that I can email to interested bidders.
I have been a 2002 enthusiast and collector for 25 years and have rarely seen an unrestored car as well preserved as this one. The car is bone dry with nearly zero rust anywhere. All of the problem areas typical of early 2002s are in phenomenal condition - the floors, frame rails, rocker panels, shock towers, spare tire area, wheel wells are all excellent. I purchased the car from a local enthusiast who had begun to prepare it for an exterior paint job and lost space for the car. The car was taken down to bare metal and the bottom of the hood, door jams and trunk area were resprayed in the original Inka Orange color. The car has a primer coat to prevent rust and the body is extremely straight. The car body needs minimal work to prepare it for a new paint job. I have a large assortment of trim pieces and glass that came with the car and I believe its mostly complete. The front windshield has some clouding and should be replaced.
The interior is original with the typical 2002 front seats and rear bench. They will need restoration as will the carpet and headliner. The dash is standard Tii with the Tii clock. The dash has several cracks and will need to be recovered or restored. I have the original door cards and other interior trim pieces that came with the car. The car has an air conditioning system but I cannot verify if it is in working condition. The compressor and condenser are in place but the under dash unit was disconnected (I do have it and its included with the car).
The engine is in excellent condition and runs VERY strong. The car starts up immediately when cold and the Kugelfischer fuel injection runs smoothly. I suspect the engine may have been rebuilt based on the cold compression test numbers we recorded. They are as follows: Cylinder #1 - 175PSI, Cylinder #2 - 180PSI, Cylinder #3 180PSI, Cylinder #4 170PSI. I took pictures documenting the compression reading for each cylinder and those are shown in the large photo album as well. The car has a 5 speed transmission conversion and will move under its own power.
This is a truly rare opportunity to own an iconic 1973 Inka Orange Tii. With modest effort and expense the car could be painted and put back into driver condition. Alternatively, given how well preserved and original the car is, it would make an excellent candidate for a full concours level restoration. The car is located near Hartford, CT and I welcome inspections prior to the end of the auction. No post auction inspections will be permitted. I am also listing the car locally and reserve the right to end the auction early. DO NOT BID unless you are able to pay. Bidders with less than 25 feedbacks must contact me prior to bidding. The winning bidder will be expected to make a $1000 deposit within 24 hours and pay for the car in full within 3 business days. The car is sold in as is where is condition. Shipping arrangements and costs are at the buyers expense. Sold with a bill of sale only, CT does not issue titles for older cars. I do have the New York title from the previous owner. This should not be an issue to register in any state but check your local laws before bidding.
