1962 Bentley S2
VIN # B78CU
Presented for sale is this well reconditioned 1962 Bentley S2. The Bentley S2 is a luxury automobile manufactured at the Crews factory in Cheshire England alongside the Rolls Royce Silver Cloud from 1959-1962. It is among the last of the dying breed of truly hand built luxury cars. It followed the Bentley S1 and featured the new Rolls-Royce-Bentley L Series V8 engine. In all, 1920 standard and long-wheel based S2 chassis cars were built between 1959 and 1962.The sale price is $51,995.00 and is negotiable.
This particular right hand drive Bentley S2 is two-toned black and silver with a burgundy interior. I purchased this vehicle from a gentleman in Wisconsin in April 2014. He had recently acquired the vehicle from an estate of a deceased gentleman. That person had a formal appraisal of the car done in 2009 (I have the appraisal document) which set the car’s value at $30,000 in 2009. Since acquiring the vehicle I have had both mechanical and cosmetic work done on the car with receipts totaling in excess of $35,000.00. The car currently shows 42001 miles on the odometer, but I do not know if that is actual mileage.
The exterior paint is in good condition. I had the front bonnet repainted silver, with the underside in appropriate tan. The silver paint on the top and boot are in very good condition. The exterior black paint looks terrific from 10 feet, but on close inspection there are a few nicks and scratches that do not show on the enclosed photos. The exterior glass is in excellent condition. I had the front and rear bumpers and bumper guards re-chromed. The front headlight lenses are new. The side view mirrors are new as well as the rocker trim and splash guards. The under carriage is free of rust. The tires have plenty of tred. The wheels and hubcaps are inexcellentcondition without road rash. The trunk has a good spare tire, correct jack, hand pump, and tire iron. The tool box is not complete.
The interior burl wood trim is inexcellentcondition, without cracks or warping and good luster to the finish. The carpet and burgundy faux leather upholstery is also in very good condition. There are two small tears in the upholstery where the stitching has unraveled, one on the rear passenger seat and one in the driver seat back panel (see pictures). The car has aftermarket air conditioning, that blows very cold. All the gauges work appropriately except the clock. The interior dash lights work but the interior dome light does not work. The car has a new, functioning, after market stereo CD player with remote. The heater does not work. I have never fixed it, because I have never needed it here in Atlanta. The car has functioning power windows.
Since my ownership, the car has had multiple mechanical issues addressed.
In 2014-2015 the following:
Repaired gas line leak, detailed boot, partial engine detail, oil changed, new points spark plugs & condenser, A/C repaired and recharged, new radio installed, new front door locks, new battery, new battery tray, oil changed, radiator re-cored, new radiator hoses, replaced the water pump and gasket, replaced the thermostat and gasket, replaced the coolant temperature sender, replaced the oil pressure sender, removed and replaced the steering arm to replace shaft seals, R&R brake drums, new front and rear brake shoes, front brake cylinders, replaced small master cylinder, adjusted both master cylinders and bled brakes, adjusted the hand brake, installed and rewired a new wiper motor, R&R and adjust brake servo and brake control rods.
In 2016 the following:
Install new four-gauge cluster, replace faulty fuel level sensor, rebuilt carburetors, replaced fuel tank, sender and filter neck, new switch & relay for electric fan, oil changed & chassis lubricated.
In 2017 the following:
Replaced points, spark plugs, condenser, plug wires & fuel filter, replaced valve cover gaskets & bolt seals, Repainted valve covers, R&R exhaust down pipes to replace exhaust gaskets.
Performed compression test: A1 165psi, A2 140psi, A3 150psi, A4 160psi
B1 140psi, B2 155psi, B3 160psi, B4 155psi
The performance, ride and handling in this car are what you would expect from a vintage luxury vehicle. It starts right up, the automatic transmission shifts easily and the engine purrs as it drives smoothly down the road. I get admiring looks and waves when ever I am out on the road for a drive. It always is a crowd pleaser at the local car shows with the Grey Puopon and Champagne glasses on the burl wood serving tray! I am selling the car to help fund two other ongoing restoration projects.
The car is sold AS IS. No warranties are made, direct or implied. Pre-purchase inspections are encouraged. Initial nonrefundable $1000.00 deposit is required within 24 hours of purchase via cash or Pay Pal. The remainder is due with cash, or wire transfer within 7 days of purchase. I will assist with arranging transportation as needed, but all costs and responsibility for transport are on the buyer. This car is being advertised locally so I hold the right to end this auction early in the event it sells locally.
