The final version of the Big Healey six-cylinder cars was the BJ8, ntroduced in 1963 and built during the last four years of production. The three-liter engine boasted 150 horsepower aided by two SU HD8 carburetors. This particular late-production 1967 3000 was found in Greenville, isconsin and purchased in 2008 by renowned Healey specialist Tom Kovacs, wner of Fourintune Garage, nc. During his 36 years of Healey restoration, e had never encountered such an unmolested time capsule with its original paint intact. Two previous owners never began restoration but helped preserve the car in proper storage.
When this 32,000-mile Healey was disassembled for restoration, he excellent condition was readily apparent. After the chassis was sandblasted, anels that typically require replacement appeared solid and as-new. The decision was consequently made to restore this late BJ8 to original specification and concours standards. Using the BMIHT certificate to confirm numbers and the original color scheme, he body was finished in Old English White and then wet-sanded and buffed to a stunning deep finish.
All mechanicals were rebuilt including engine, ransmission, verdrive, rakes, uspension and electrical systems. The entire, eticulous process was documented with detailed photographs and text from start to finish. All of the original major components were rebuilt as necessary, nd any replacement parts were OEM-quality reproductions. Chrome trim was test fit to the body and sent out for re-plating to show finish. The assembly process utilized reconditioned, riginal fasteners for authentic detail. The black interior was replicated using original patterns but has been upgraded to leather, hich was a factory option when the car was new, nd sports a BMW radio to complement the burled walnut dash. The last of the production Healeys, his BJ8 is the ideal candidate for touring and concours events.
