This is my first Austin Healey. I'm no expert, but I'll do the best I can to honestly represent the car. I'm a car dealer.Antique cars rarely come through my local dealers auction. This one was being sold there by a finance company who, I assume, had to repossess the car. To them it's just paper. To the other dealers at the auction, the vin number doesn't compute with their little phone apps that spit out all of the market data, so they didn't really know what they were looking at. The lot attendant who was attempting to drive it across the auction appeared to have no clue as to drive a car with a manual choke carburetor and a clutch. I got the biggest kick out of watching them all try to figure out how to pop the hood. It ran like crap at the auction and was poorly representedso needless to say... I swiped it up cheap. I put on a new flame thrower electronic distributor by Pertronix and a new set of wires and it runs perfectly now. The car had allot of tell tale signs that the previous owner took good care of this car. It was obviously restored not too long ago and garage kept ever since. If I was going to complain about it as you can do with any 53 year old car, the shifting is sloppy but maybe that's normal for these, I don't know. The exhaust pipe just barely clears the frame, so any sort of rough idle & the pipe is banging on the frame, so that needs to be attended to. It's a little cold natured and the starter doesn't continuously turn the engine. It will turn it a few seconds and kick out. Once it's warmed up, starting it over & over again is no problem, it's just a cold start that's aggravating. It has an oil leak, so that's something to keep an eye on. Aside from those issues, the car drives down the road great. It's very straight & smooth. The tires are like new and it steers & brakes perfectly.
This Austin Healey has the older design with the door latches only on the inside of the car. I think there were a handful of slight differences between the 63 & 64 models and this one from what I've learned, had more of the 63 characteristics.
This is not a project car by any means, but as any old car, it could always use a little tinkering & improvements. This is a great car for the money & I've got it priced right as an affordable entry level collector car. I'm familiar with J.J. Best and will except a loan check with them if you decide to go that route, just drop my dealer name to them. I'll also accept loan checks from local credit unions. All other forms of payment must be by a US based bank, cashiers check, bank to bank wire transfer, or US currency, in person at time of pick up. I can assist in shipping, as far as helping you find a good price and being here to help load it up, but the shipping agreement is strictly between the buyer & the shipper.
