Rare Austin A40 Sports convertible. Aluminum body by Jensen. Estimated only 50 exist worldwide out of 4,011 produced between 1951 and 1953. This is an even rarer LHD car. All original. Rust free. Perfect candidate for restoration. Currently has single carb set up but original dual SU carb and manifold available. 1st and reverse gears are underperforming. 2-4 are solid. Needs work to points, condenser and a good tuning. Starts easily and all electrical seems to work. All gauges work except the fuel gauge. I would say the transmission needs work. I just imported this car from Western Canada. It's a bigger project than I want to take on. Hoping their is an enthusiast out there that will want to take this car to the next level but I'm not the one to do it. The paint is poor as it wasn't properly primed for the aluminum body. Body panels all look good and chassis seems rust free. The seller recently replaced battery, fuel pump, water pump and 4 new Austin Healy drum brakes and brake lines. The car is in a mediocre running state now but has all the pieces and solid body and chassis for a restoration. Seat upholstery and convertible top are in very good condition and appear to have been recently redone. The mileage is unknown. The odometer reads 27,152 but the engine has been partially replaced. The top half of another engine along with a valve cover came in the trunk of the car.
The reserve price would approach my cost to purchase the car and import it from Canada. The month long process and hurdles of importation are done for you. The price reflects the rarity and the originality. Please understand that this is not a car you can hop in and drive for fun before you decide to restore it! That's what I thought I was buying and it needs worktomake that happen. It starts easily but reverse is a hard gear to find and I think it is too rough a ride to enjoy as it currently is. The right body and chassis for restoration I think.
