1958 Austin Healey Bugeye Sprite Turnkey Race Car

I am pleased to offer this 1958 Austin Healey Bugeye Sprite race car. 1958 is the first year of the Bugeye. VIN # AN533804. This is a race car and not street legal. Will be sold on Bill of Sale only.

This car was built as a race car in the early 1980’s. Throughout various ownerships over the years, the car competed in a variety of racing leagues from autocross to hillclimbs and wheel to wheel racing leagues in HSR, VRG, SVRA, and VDCA. Car was most recently freshened by Rick Cline in Georgia.

Car has a Dave Taber 8k RPM 1275 motor with a full race set ribbed gearbox, aluminum radiator, fully ported and prepped SU carburetors, electronic ignition, external oil cooler with spin off filter. Clutch is a Tilton with only a few races and a new Mini Cooper adjustable clutch slave cylinder.

Everything under the car is new including A arms, bushings, re-valved front shocks, grease-able front sway bar, rear panhard bar and adjustable gas shocks. Brakes are new front calipers and rotors with nearly new race pads. Rear brakes are drum with fresh pads, cylinders, and axle seals.

Car has a fresh set of Hoosier TDR’s mounted on VTO wheels. Body is in really good shape with cool patina and fiberglass front clip conversion. Car has a full cage with nascar bars and driver halo. Fuel cell is present along with a full car fire suppression system. Belts and seats are all within date. Car just passed tech with VRG in November 2025 and needs nothing. Totally turn key, fast, competitive and fun.
