OUTSTANDING EXAMPLE OF ONE OF FINEST SPORTS CARS
Debuted at the 1952 London Motor Show, Donald Healey's Hundred gained immediate acclaim for its proven Austin/BMC-sourced mechanicals, sleek envelope-type bodywork, and electrifying performance. Competition use and success on the international stage were immediate, including the punishing long-distance rallies and fabled endurance races of the era. Development was relentless, with a succession of updates resulting in the definitive, 6-cylinder Austin-Healey 100/6 by 1956. In addition to the 2-seater Roadster, a new 2+2 model debuted, delivering a Grand Touring experience for up to four occupants. Uprated with a new 3.0-liter powerplant for 1959 and a name change to the Austin-Healey 3000 Mk I, this basic design continued with a steady stream of improvements through 1967. Today, while all variations are highly collectible and enjoyable, early examples of the Austin-Healey 3000 Mk I are particularly coveted for their purity of purpose and first of the line status.
While rightly popular and immensely enjoyable, few, if any, examples of the Big Healey are as original and attractive as this incredibly well-preserved BT7 2+2 from 1960. Retaining its original Old English White paint finish and Red interior adorned with smart White piping, it was purchased new on March 13, 1960 by William Lofdahl from Spokane, Washington foreign-car dealer Jaremko Motors. It entered long-term storage during the 1970s at 24,475 miles, with the Healey raised on jackstands and carefully covered, remaining until it was removed from storage in 2015 and mechanically recommissioned for light road use by Commonwealth Motors in Vancouver, Washington. Next, the Healey was shown at a local British Car event and also featured on the cover of the Austin-Healey Club calendar. In June 2017, the Healey was sold to the next owner, who carefully removed the old black undercoating with dry ice and commissioned a major, road-rally ready service, including complete electrical rewiring. Following completion, the former owner entered the car participated in the 2021 Healey Club Conclave, including over 500 trouble-free touring miles.
As offered, this wonderfully original and unrestored 1960 Austin-Healey 3000 Mk I 2+2 retains its original paint finish and pleasingly patinated Red leather interior with smart White piping. Power is delivered by an unmodified twin-carbureted 2.9L inline-six engine paired with a 4-speed manual gearbox. Original equipment includes dual S.U. HD6 carburetors and hydraulic Girling front disc brakes. A letter from the British Motor Industry Heritage Trust (BMIHT)is included, documenting the Healeys model designation, original specifications, and Chassis/VIN number. Documentation from new is exceptional, including the owners manual, original Bill of Sale, maintenance log, and service records. Other highly desirable features include tools and a removable Le Mans-style hard top (no soft top). Running strongly, in keeping with its fabulous condition and exceptionally low mileage, this highly original, never-restored 1960 Austin-Healey 3000 Mk I 2+2 is an investment-grade sporting legend throughout, ready for continued enjoyment and appreciation.
