This is a very special Austin Healey. Designed and constructed by an aircraft engineer in the late Sixties and maintained and modifiedto the highest standards by two long term owners. Beginning with a near new low mileage Healey theAustin driveline was removed, the chassis reinforced anda Corvette engine was installed with a 4 speed close ratio transmission. Recently the 4 speed was replaced with a GM5 speed transmission and the original Corvette engine was fully rebuilt to 350bhp specs. Since initially modified many more items wereupdated as well. Some of which area fully fusedwiring harness encompassing modern lighting and charging circuits.BJ8 disc brakes, competition valved shock absorbers, larger sway bars, Dennis Welch chassis bushings and hardened axle shafts, 3:54 Lempert rear axle ratio,Ansa type quad tipped exhaust, stainless 6 inch wide tubeless wire wheels, a very rare " Stirling Moss" Mota Lita wood steering wheel, full leather interior, factory hard top with rally vent, Lucas driving lights, Aston Martin alloy fuel filler, and a modern air conditioning and heating system. No body modifications except the addition of Rally Vents. Show quality paint finish. All weather equipment, soft top, tonneau and curtains are in excellent condition.
This car needs nothing and is ready for your enjoyment now. Not a back yard builthot rod but a fully developed, professionally constructed example. It is a wonderful road and rally car, comfortable, tractablewith tremendous performance when called upon.Smoothly pulls from 1000 RPMin any gear all the way to6500 RPM without hesitation.Austin Healey history describes how Carrol Shelby actually contacted Donald Healey about creating this type of car but Healey could not due to his obligations to Austin. We all know what happened when Shelby joined forces with Ford and AC. In the fifties and sixties quite a few Healey V8 conversions competed in various races and did quite well, often defeating far more sophisticated machinery. There is a very interesting article in the January 2019 Austin Healey Club of America's monthly magazine describing one such similar car, the small block Corvette powered Cor-D-Leyracing to victory in the 250 mile Nassau Trophy race bettering teams from Germany, England and Italy. The Austin Healey Club of America recognizes these modified Healey's and has named them 'Nasty Boys". Having owned over 30 big Healey's in my lifetime I tend to call it something else. This is simply themost dependableand best performing Healey I have ever had the pleasure of driving. My Bug Eye and 100 are magnificent automobiles but if I need to drive any distance this would be my choice. If not sold it will be a participant in this Fall's New England 1000 mileroad rally doing exactly that.
