1955 Aston Martin DB 2/4 MK I Additional Info:

What an amazing piece of history - both the car and its owners!
1955 Aston Martin DB2/4 MK1 (David Brown Mark 1). Restored, with original DOHC inline 6 and 4 speed manual transmission.
This vehicle was purchased originally by the Prince of Palitana (India) to enter competition events. He hired famous race car driver Les Leston to drive the vehicle in the 1956 running of the Monte Carlo Rally, and allegedly was a backup vehicle for the Mile de Mile as well. Shortly after the race it was sold (to avoid paying taxes) to an Englishman named Bruce Richard Reynolds. That gentleman was infamously known later as the mastermind of the 1963 Great Train Robbery, and he writes about the vehicle several times in his memoir. The vehicle was sold in 1957 to the Count Charles De Salis who ran the vehicle again in the 1958 Rally at Monte Carlo. The vehicle was then sold soon after that to an American serviceman who was stationed in England, and that family has owned the vehicle for the last 58 years. Has original license/number plates from England, which are shown in the newspaper photos of the vehicle at Monte Carlo.
The frame off restoration was done well, though the car is not concours quality it shows extremely well. No leaks or drops on the floor, engine is very clean and has the original matching serial number on the head. Some chips on the hood where it was closed incorrectly and a small dent on the roof are the exterior blemishes, the interior is perfect save some patina on the original wood dash. Vehicle starts and runs, but has been sitting for a while since the restoration and has old gas and we would recommend a thorough refreshing before driving the vehicle any distance. Seller has stated that the vehicle will be sold as-is, Autosearch USA would be happy to arrange any mechanical repairs after the sale if needed.
All books, documentation, research, and binders of history go with the vehicle.
As you can see, this vehicle is not an "ordinary" Aston Martin (if there is such a thing)! With some cars we don't just own them or restore them, but we are able to be caretakers for the next generation. The historical provenance added 20% to the professional appraisal done on the vehicle. Be part of this amazing history - and look like James Bond while enjoying it!
