1963 AMC Rambler Classic Additional Info:
For sale is a beautiful West Coast Rambler Classic 770 2-dr that is almost rust-free and has loads of potential as a true American Motors Muscle Car.
This car originally had a 287 V8 and "Twin Stick" trans (a 3-spd on the floor with a second stick to operate an overdrive unit). A few years ago those were removed and a 327 4bbl AMC engine from an Ambassador (same body style) was installed with a Borg-Warner T-10 4-spd. This 270hp engine was rebuilt and it runs and sounds GREAT.
This car has a BRAND NEW clutch and exhaust system..... and the red-line tires have loads of tread.
Why is this fabulous, solid Rambler available so cheaply (a comparable Chevelle would be over $20K)? Because it needs a few things:
1.) Either the trans or the rear is leaking into the driveshaft torque tube, so that must be disassembled and the seal installed. I have loosened the bolts holding the rear in preparation for doing this.
2.) It needs carpet
3.) The paint is fine for a driver, but I did sand a few areas that had bubbles and they need to be properly painted.
With the T-10 this car is very tall-geared. The Twin Stick trans (condition unknown) will be provided with the car should you want to return it to stock.
I personally think the 63 Classic is one of AMC's best designs. It was one of their top sales years too, so apparently the general public felt the same way. A really nice sized car too.
Please send a message if you have questions about the car.
