1978 AMC Concord Additional Info:

The 1978 AMC Concord D/L was a very important car in the history of American Motors. Despite being built on the well-aged Hornet platform, the Concord D/L had a bunch of features that were optional on the Big Three competitors...at a price that was very respectable. Many would say that the Concord saved American Motors in 1978, even if only for a short time.
This particular coupe is finished in Sand Tan, and had a tan vinyl top (which has unfortunately deteriorated badly...but the necessary trim pieces are still in place).
This car was off the road for many years when I purchased it, but I've replaced numerous parts necessary to get it running and driving (around the block anyway). The 258 inline 6 runs great and the car has a new Motorcraft 2bbl carburetor (replacing the original Carter BBD, which is included in the trunk). A new fuel pump, fuel line, alternator and battery as well as new vacuum hoses and many other underhood parts have the car running pretty well.
This coupe came pretty loaded for 1978 - it has all of the standard equipment (tilt column, power steering, dashboard clock, deluxe wheel covers, etc) PLUS it has the optional air conditioning, power brakes, and cruise control.
Condition:
Body - this car is pretty straight for it's age...and the paint comes back to life nicely with just a hand wax. Could probably use a machine buffing to really get it shiny again. The vinyl top is pretty much gone. The driver's side front fender has some denting but a straight replacement is included...it's in the trunk. There are scratches, dings, and other expected damage is present, but overall the car presents well (check out the pictures). There is a small rust area on the driver's side rear quarterpanel, directly in front of the rear wheel (see picture). That is the only rust I've found on this beautiful car. The chrome looks good and with a good polishing, would be even more presentable than it is now. All of the glass is good.
Interior - the seats are very clean and comfortable with no major rips (just some small holes here and there). The carpet is in tact but has some discoloration (common with AMC's from this era). The plastic trim panels are all present but are getting crispy due to age. The dashboard pad and instrument panel are in good condition. This car has an AMC AM/FM stereo which is still in place and seems to work...however the only speaker is the one mounted in the dashboard and that speaker is not connected currently. The rear package tray is showing it's age BUT a brand new reproduction is included (just paint to match and install...even has brand new insulation...all in the trunk of the car).Speaking of the trunk - this is the cleanest 1978 AMC Concord trunk I've ever owned (and I've had several of these cars over the last 30 years). The black plastic covers for the tail-lights are perfect, the original black carpet is perfect, even the original AMC vinyl spare tire cover is in place (and the bumper jack is mounted where it is supposed to be).The interior chrome pieces (window cranks, turn signal arm, shifter arm) are pitted and need some detailing. The car has a pair of BRAND NEW sun visors (reproduction pieces). The only part of the interior that I would consider "bad" is the headlining. Unlike many of these cars, this headlining hasn't separated from it's backing...but it appears that Freddy Krueger has visited the car because there are a ton of rips and tears in the headlining material (which has become extremely fragile over the years).
Engine/Transmission - the 258 inline six runs well. Unfortunately has a smog pump...but this pump isn't locked up. I haven't seen any oil leaks. I replaced the original Carter BBD 2 bbl carburetor with a rebuilt Motorcraft 2 bbl. using a kit from a well-known performance parts provider...the car definitely runs better with the Motorcraft but the original BBD is in the trunk. New plugs, wires, hoses, battery, alternator, fuel line and fuel pump are in place. The transmission seems to shift fine although I've only driven it a few miles since putting it back on the road as the tires are very old and dry rotted. The passenger-side front tire only holds air for a few days...the other three seem to hold air for months at a time.
Again, I would consider this a running/driving PROJECT car. It is not recommended to drive it long distances until you go through everything.
This car is sold with a clean Missouri title under re-assignment. Transportation of this vehicle is the sole responsibility of the buyer...being a running car, getting onto a transporter isn't a problem.
Please take a good look at the pictures and ask any questions you might have. This is a GREAT example of a GREAT AMC car and it deserves to be restored and enjoyed!
Thanks for looking!
