This American classic was the last year for this iconic body style before it was revamped in 1977. There have been several updates to this vehicle including replacing the original “potomac” striped interior with a more palatable green color to match the rest of the interior. A beautiful off-white color scheme with the classic “hockey stick” in gold down each side, this depicts what a Gremlin should look like. Some of the dash and front trim are noted as “brittle” with some cracks. The glass is clear and weather seals are in great shape. There is pitting noted on the light bezels and small scratches in the paint on the top of the rear c-post. A small crack is also noted on the front, left corner of the grille.
This car, one of the fastest sub-compact at its time, did a spectacular 0-60mph in only 124.2 seconds! The Line-6 3801 engine (231.9cui/3.8L/90hp) and RWD automatic 3-speed gearbox was always enough to get you where you were going. Riding smoothly on a set of P195/75R14 tires that are in exceptional shape.
This AMC Gremlin was initially purchased by a resident of Salem, Indiana who daily drove the car for roughly 20 years before the harsh Midwestern winters had taken its toll on the vehicle. Spots of corrosion began to be cause for concern and so it was decided to refresh the vehicle. The rust was cut out and new metal was welded in to bring the vehicle back to its original condition. Lastly, a fresh coat of paint was applied to the entire car. Its original owner would continue to drive the car for the next decade before another major project was undertaken- this time mechanical. A thorough overhaul of the running gear was completed in order to sort out several leaking components. From that point the vehicle was sparingly driven and garage kept. In 2013, the family of the original owner had decided to place the car under the care of the Tupelo Automobile Museum where it was moved from earlier this year when the museum closed. Comes with original owner’s manual, literature and a few spare parts.
