American Motors has gotten a lot of grief over the years for their unique and polarizing automotive designs. While AMC often ran the same or similar designs for lengthy periods of time, there's no denying that many of their vehicles were attractive, stylish, or downright beautiful when new. The Matador was one of AMC's more wild offerings, but in the right light with the correct color combinations, a Matador has the capacity to be a gorgeous vehicle. If you're looking... for an all original, fully restored, unmolested Matador, this is probably not the car for you. This is a Matador for the masses, customized and reinvented like nothing you have ever seen! Resto Mod is the name of the game, and this Matador is a player. The Dark Espresso Pearl paint is subtle, but really accents the attractive curvatures of this AMC classic! The body is clean and straight as can be, with every gap and seam dialed in just right. The Dark Espresso Pearl paint is set off by the copper powder coated three-piece Rotiform wheels, staggered in size from front to rear. The cherry on top that really brings this Matador together is the bold stripe down the side, with the painted bull on the rear quarters. LED tail lights and halo-ring halogen headlights are nice touch, giving this car an updated look! The LEDs in the headlight halos shift colors and are remote controlled, along with LEDs throughout the interior, trunk, and in the opera glass windows engraved with the AMC logo. A seamlessly integrated spoiler sits atop the trunk, and looks right at home while balancing the look of the car. Putting bumpers on Matadors was the most heinous disservice done to them, so the bumpers have been shaved on this car allowing its purest form to show. One last custom item is the front side marker lights; they are LEDs flush with the fender in the shape of the word 'Matador.' If you aren't already impressed with this car, you will be soon! Opening the door you'll immediately noticed the custom leather door panels with modern switches for the power windows, locks, and mirrors. Also integrated into the panels is a high-quality speaker cluster, a few of many speakers throughout this custom AMC. LED ambient lighting is installed under the dash, as well as in the custom Matador door sill plates. These LEDs change colors at the same time as the exteriors. The light brown interior color is the ideal complement to the exterior colors, and gives this Matador a supremely luxurious feel. The seats appear to be AMC bucket seats recovered in custom leather, and the custom metal dash is filled with custom color-keyed aftermarket gauges complete with a bull on the faces. All knobs, handles, and vent surround plastics are color matched to the exterior metallic paint as is the custom bull horn button in the center of the leather wrapped steering wheel. A custom center console goes from the dash to the rear seats, and really gives the interior a modern custom feel! Along with an exterior color matched shifter handle, the center console also houses buttons for the electric trunk and hood releases. The back seats are comfortable, and between the backrests is an LED lit 'Matador.' The final but perhaps crown jewel of the interior is the sound system. A modern, multicolored LED-lit Pioneer stereo is installed in the dash, hooked up not only to the door speakers but also to an array of speakers and subwoofers in the package tray. Open up the trunk, and you'll find an interior matched fully finished trunk with Matador pressed into the floor covering as well as two more subwoofers in a custom enclosure. The finishing touch is a hidden LED strip near the top, providing ambient trunk lighting and shifting colors along with the other LEDs. Under the hood is a Chevrolet 502 cubic inch big block V8, fuel injected and ready to absolutely rumble. While a GM powerplant may not been an AMC purists first choice, this Matador was built to impress as a full custom Resto Mod. The 502 is hooked up to a four speed automatic Phoenix 700R4 transmission for maximum cruising capabilities. Again with the matched visual cues, the engine bay is painted the same as the exterior of the car with the wiper motor, brake master cylinder, and other items painted to match as well. Look closely and you'll see that not only are parts of the engine powder coated to match the copper secondary color present on the exterior, but small items such as the dipstick and radiator cap are as well as the March pulley system. A dual snorkel cold air intake is a bold and striking under-hood feature that really completes the look! No small detail has been spared in the design and build of this car; even the oil and transmission pans are the same copper color! Underneath the car are rear Strange coilovers and 13" Wilwood disc brakes. This Matador is ready to burn up the road with 500 horsepower and 500ft-lbs of torque! Top to bottom, this car has been expertly re-engineered and put together with incredible fit and finish. There are so many little details that have been addressed it is nearly impossible to list them all! The more time you spend around this car, the more impressed with it you become, as it is truly a professional custom build. This is a show car that is also built to be driven and enjoyed regularly. With just 2,500 miles accrued since built, this Matador looks as good as the moment it was completed. If you're looking to stand way out in a crowd, or have to have something absolutely no one else does, this Matador is everything you need! DOES IT WORK?
