“The Javelin”
For sale is a 1970 AMC Javelin. The vehicle has 647 original miles on it. This may increase slightly, as I start it regularly and take it for short drives. The engine is a 232-cubic inch in-line L-6 (or Slant 6). I am told that this three-speed rear-wheel drive vehicle was in an accident at about 330 miles. The Javelin was struck on the driver’s side front quarter panel, but the damage was repaired. I believe the front fender may have been replaced. The motor is fine -- original; clean; starts easily; sounds great; and runs well. The vehicle tracks well. The Javelin is very clean underneath; no rust; no leaks. The windshield wiper electric motor does not work; the radio does not work. The Javelin has good glass all around. I was told that the vehicle sat outside for about 6 years. When the front quarter panel was repaired, the entire car was repainted dark green (from silver). There are some chips and scratches in the paint. The interior is red. Everything inside is original except, I believe, a marble clutch handle. There is a tear across the seam of the upper rear seat. Following its repair, the Javelin spent about 32 years in storage, being started regularly, but being run sparingly. A subsequent owner stored it in his garage for about 7 years. He, too, started it regularly and ran it sparingly. I purchased the vehicle in August 2015 and put a new set of BF Goodrich Radial T/A’s tires on it ($850). It has clean and clear title. Not a racer, but you could put in a big engine and/or completely refurbish, or just keep it how it is. It’s a nice, basic, clean ’70 Javelin that’s waiting for an AMC Javelin lover to make it his or her own.
