This 1982 Alfa Romeo GTV6 Balocco SE (#217 of 350) presents as an excellent driver-quality example that combines strong cosmetics, original interior, and a noticeably upgraded driving experience.
The body and paint present very well, showing no major dents or dings. Finished in its original Alfa Rosso, the paint has excellent depth, gloss, and shine, with only a few small chips and scratches visible throughout (see photos). There are also a few minor areas of overspray where the bumpers meet the body, though this is only noticeable upon very close inspection. The body and undercarriage are completely rust-free, further supporting the quality of this example.
Inside, the cabin remains remarkably original and is largely free from tears, cracks, or significant upholstery wear. The original leather seats retain their signature “candy cane” red-and-black piping, and the original carpeting remains intact. There is one small hole on the rear seat bottom (see images), along with a few very minor cracks on the top of the dash. All gauges and electrical systems are fully functional, with the exception of the air conditioning system, which does not currently blow cold.
Mechanically, the GTV6 runs and drives beautifully and is ready for many more miles of enjoyment. The car feels noticeably stronger than a stock example thanks to its engine upgrades, though the exact horsepower increase is unknown. Low-end torque is somewhat limited, and the car comes alive in the higher rev range, producing strong power above approximately 3,500 RPM. The power delivery feels almost turbo-like in the way it builds and pulls through the upper RPM range.
Supporting this performance is documented engine work performed in period. On 10/26/1989, the cylinder heads were serviced by Sperry Valve Works (Torrance, CA), including stage head preparation, a valve job, removal and replacement of valve guides, port work, spring height setup, camshaft removal and reinstallation with valve clearance adjustment, and the installation of a remote oil filter kit.
More recently, on 12/23/2025, service was performed by John’s Alfa Romance (Los Angeles, CA) including installation of a timing belt, water pump, and fan belt. On 1/30/2026, an alignment was performed by Best Tire Shop (Fontana, CA).
The car is equipped with Koni adjustable struts on all four corners, and the Pirelli tires are in good usable condition. The transaxle shifts very well overall, with only occasional grinding into second gear if rushed—otherwise the synchro feels healthy. The clutch engages properly and feels strong, operating as expected for a well-sorted GTV6.
This Balocco SE is sold with a clean California title and a clean Carfax history with no accident records. It should be noted that there appears to have likely been a minor hit to the passenger-side front end at some point in the past. The extent of any previous damage is unknown, however the repairs appear to have been performed properly, and the car presents extremely well overall.
