1959 Alfa Romeo Giulietta Spider 750F Veloce Additional Info:
1959 Alfa Romeo Giulietta Spider 750F Veloce
For consignment and gracing our Hallowed Halls, a select piece of automotive art in the form of a 1959 Alfa Romeo Giulietta Spider 750F Veloce. Sold to Huffman motor Car Company out of New York on May 12 1958, it has been in the care of 1 owner since 1967. In 2012 it underwent an extensive restoration at which time it received a respray of the Sky Blue and some mechanical updates all to the tune of 31K! The interior is to die for in its two tone and it runs like a Swiss watch. Sadly the top has not been restored or is it in working usable condition, but does come with the car.
Exterior
Veloce means fast in Italian and this car looks the part just sitting there. The bodywork is simply stunning with nicely fitted body panels. The paintwork and chrome elements are as good as new. There are a few areas of paint slightly bubbling and some undulations in repaired areas, so it is not perfect, but it's close. An iconic shaped front grille leads the way and it is adorned with a pointed bottom, shield shaped grille in shiny chrome. This shield splits horizontal rounded openings on either side with some simple horizontal ribs inserted within. A split bumper frames the bottom the front and wraps around the front quarters. Above this curve around is a single round headlight which leads the way for the front rounded over fenders that flank a small hood between them. Nicey rounded over door tops seamlessly melt into the rear quarters and here within the seams are nicely molded straight gaps. A lower chromed trim spear floats just below the doors and above the rockers. In back, the trunk has exposed hinges and the lid rolls down to meet just above the bumper which is a single solid curved around trim for the bottom of this beautiful sports car. Oval tail lights are on either side on the tips of the rounded over fenders which actually start their roll just aft of the doors and roll past the trunk lid. 15-inch Borrani steel drilled wheels are wrapped with 165HR15 black wall tires. As noted is no top but it does come with the sale and is unrestored. The badges are all correct, and chromed adornments and trimmings are all excellent. Bellissimo!
Interior
Beautifully restored and nearly perfect black leather bomber style buckets sport some light blue piping and the edges of the bolsters and inserts. These float on black pristine carpeting which also covers the back storage area featuring the spare tire. Sky Blue edged sporty looking doors are covered with black leather panels and these have shiny cranks, pulls and actuators within their confines. A black padded dash top undulates with the shape of the dash which is painted Sky Blue steel. This dash features a trio round black faced gauges with gold inserts and shiny chrome bezels. A horizontal flat chromed bar runs across the bottom of the dash front and below are a series of black bakelite knobs and pulls. The original steering wheel is using some blue steel for the ribs, has a round circular horn ring in the middle and black bakelite for the actual wheel. The Alfa badge is adorning the center hub of this wheel. The rear view mirror is attached to the dash top, and there is an open glove box in front of the passenger. A nice stunner for this simple but elegant interior. Abbondanza!
Drivetrain
Under the hood in a clean and nicely restored engine bay sits a rebuilt 700 miles ago 1290cc DOHC 4 cylinder mill. It is fed by dual Weber DC03 single barrel carbs. On the back is a 4 speed manual transmission and way back is a 4.11 rear axle. Everything under this hood is looking like new!
Undercarriage
Simply put, perfection underneath. Solid black steel and all mechanicals are excellently preserved. Independent coil springs for the front suspension are installed, and in back a 3 link with coil springs are in. Drum brakes are all around. Very clean and like new underneath this car.
Drive-Ability
The car fired right up and on the test track I could not push it as the brakes are very soft. It does handle nicely and is a cinch to drive with effortless steering. Remember there is no soft top, so it is a fair weather car in its current condition. Overall a smooth operator.
Not too many examples exist for this 750F Spider Veloce, so it's a beautiful rarity to grace out well stuffed halls. It has been well cared for, it is not perfect but well within the realm of very good. The paint and colors for the interior are fab, and it is a really neat example of an Italian designed sports car with features in this car still seen today on modern Alfas. It leads the way!
