1959 Alfa Romeo Giulietta Spider Veloce Additional Info:
This is it, your very own barn find! A wonderful opportunity to purchase a perfect canvas for your dream restoration. With values of restored Veloces maintaining their stratospheric levels, there are fewer cars each week upon which to base your perfect restoration project. Enter this 1959 Alfa Romeo Giulietta Spider Veloce (titled as a 1960, but built in 1959 - confirmed by Fusi). It is a desirable short wheelbase 750 series and could be your next obsession. Off the road since 1968 - you could be responsible for getting this rare gem back out there if you bid strongly enough.I purchased the car with the intention of performing a full restoration myself but I am the victim of A.L.F.A. (always looking for another) and now have too many cars and not enough time for all of them. This car deserves the attention of someone who will take the time and make it their own. For this reason, I am selling this example, number 1495 06980, with the F Veloce indicator stamped above the number on the firewall. This car has a desirably short ownership history, with one caretaker from 1964 until I bought it in 2017.
I started disassembling and the car is mostly complete - rather than list everything present I have catalogued that which is missing; Veloce oil pan, IPRA heater box, door glass, window mechanisms, fuse box cover, turn signal stalk, license plate light housing, and possibly some other small odds and ends. When I was planning the restoration, I found a source for an original Veloce oil pan, and heater box along with some of the other parts on the list - available for additional cost to the winning bidder.
Most of the significant Veloce items are present; pair of 40DC03 Weber carburetors #6268 and #6294, Veloce air intake and filter housing, Veloce fuel filter, headers, 140 MPH speedometer, and 8000 RPM tachometer.
The motor currently in the car has a normale 1300 engine block, # AR00102.29415, and a 101 cylinder head, # 101.00.015.00.05 which was built by Knauz in Lake Forest, IL in 1979 and was never run. Included in the auction is the original matching numbers engine block, # 1315.32660. Unfortunately the block was cracked in 1968 and a repair was done in period (photos in the dropbox link). The original ID tag verifies the matching numbers. The included odometer show 47,394 miles which makes sense given the 8 years this car was on the road though true mileage cannot be verified.
The upper part of the body appears original and mostly unmolested. I ran a magnet around the car and only two areas were not magnetic: a small section of the rear quarter panel behind the drivers door (there is evidence of a patch in that area from inside) and the curved portion of the trunk lid on the drivers side. I welcome potential buyers to come see for themselves. The trunk floor is not original and was fabricated, along with some frame support work, in 1985. To complete a faithful restoration you'll need to replace this work though thankfully reproduction body pieces are available these days. The cockpit floors appear to be original, but show surface rust, as do the supports for the floors and the trunk floor. Finally there are two small dents on the driver side front and rear fenders that can easily be popped back out.
Included with the sale are; the original instruction book, a period shop manual, a number of 1960s technical bulletins from Alfa, service records from the 1985 metal work and 1979 engine rebuild, a brief letter from the long term owner describing his history with the car, and a Sears car parts catalog from the 1960s. The car has an Illinois title from 1964, shows a release of the lien in 1965 and has been assigned to me.
The car is available for inspection by appointment andis located in Northern Westchester County in New York (less than 1 hour north of NYC). Winning bidder is responsible for shipping from said location, though for overseas buyers I can arrange for transportation to the port in NJ, once you have made arrangements with a shipper, for approximately $350.
Thank you for looking.
