1974 Alfa Romeo Berlina Additional Info:
Rare Berlina model.
I bought this vehicle in 1978 from the original owner and drove it until 1994. During this time it was garaged about 50% of the time. From 1994 to 2009 it was stored outside under a tarp with Dri-Z-Air inside, since 2009 it has been garaged.
I installed a 1979 Spider engine with 19,000 miles on it in 1991. I put another 10,000 miles on it, so the 1979 Spider engine has almost 30,000 miles on it now. The original motor comes with the vehicle. The original motor head cracked when I did not have have enough anti-freeze during a cold spell while I was dealing with a radiator leak.
When I started it last in 2003, it ran fine. It does not start now, likely the fuel system needs cleaning and fresh fuel. I did crank it over recently and that seems okay.
There is much rust and 'rot' on the doors and trunk lid. Elsewhere there is rusting also. See pictures. The drivers side is in similar condition to the passenger, just too much stuff next to the car to move for a picture.
The differential whines. During a trip years ago one of the axle tubes loosened from the 'pumpkin' letting the oil out. Unfortunately I did not realize this until it was too late. I suspect that the ring and pinion gears need replacing.
The vehicle was in a collision, see the damaged front license plate, however the vehicle was repaired and drove fine afterwards.
The original owner had a sunroof installed and different radio, I installed the driving lights, and trailer hitch to pull an 11' boat.
I had been saving this to be a project in my retirement, however, I'm just too busy with other priorities. So it's time for this classic 1974 Alfa Romeo Berlina to go to a loving home!
