1983 Spider Veloce 2.0 Aerodynamica, SoCal garage find, good running with fresh CA Smog certification (dyno) straight solid, no rust, no rattle, no smoke, no smell, great driver, project. Not molested by previous owners, lots of important small detail. I’m an old Alfa/ BMW guy, this is a good solid Spider. Recently found sleeping 20 years! I know these cars and drive an ‘83 everyday. Please check my feedback.
Purchased from estate, previous owner a lady from Pasadena! (hence the hole in carpet at dead pedal covered by mat in photo) she owned from 86; previous reg expired 97, have some paperwork from her ownership. Current clean CA title and registration along with transferable smog certification. Original CA Blue plate.
Good working cloth top, window is not hard; glass and windshield correct bronze anthermic w/antenna. Working lights, unmolested fusebox and fittings, all keys, locks work, driver door latch need clean/adjust, (open from inside), good power windows, complete factory a/c, unmolested, untested; auxiliary fans turn on and off automatically, Doesn’t overheat, smell or leak, good oil pressure. Driven several trips to/from San Diego (85 miles each way at 80+). Reliable, starts after sitting a week. Fuel tank is clean and solid.
Dry SoCal car, never flooded, no salt, no rust other some surface corner of the spare. No frame/chassis damage or repair, original solid rockers, arches and tow hooks;alfa type exhaust with correct hangers. Sump guard, transmission shifts smoothly, d/s good, no knocks, good steering and suspension, drives and brakes straight, bilstiens.Good tires.Speedo works, intermittently noisy, have disconnected cable at counter box, have cover and machine screw; tach inaccurate. The body fits well, very solid feel car. variable valve timing is all internal, dual pods, good sun visors, the courtesy light with delay works correctly when you open the door. Has jack, lugwrench, spare. The seat leather has perished; frame, foam and fittings ok. Covers from box “emergency seat covers”

checked valve clearances and cam timing (close enough)
changed plug wires (not satisfied) and cleaned Lodge plugs
Oil/ filter/ coolant/ trans and diff oil (all dino)
new: air filter, injector seals, injection rack lines, front fuel lines
replaced/ renewed various lines / hosesemission/vacuum/etc
replace defective CPS
new O2 sensor
new trans rubber boots (inner and outer)
new motor mounts (good big body starter with backplate) and HD trans mount
replaced pedal box unit w/servo
new d/s center support, brake pads, flush brake fluid
rebuilt m/c and slave (slave is dodgy) new flex line
replaced 3pc clutch
new fuel filters,main pump ( old one went bad first test drive!)
replaced front downpipe(s)
replaced cat with new.
idle adjusts in factory manner!

A small plug for the 83 Spider. First year for the Aerodynamica styling, chassis reinforcd, lightweight vinyl clad aluminum impact resistant bumper designed into the styling along with chin spoiler and ducktail air dam configuration. Second year under hood, the DOHC legendary hemi head aluminum motor with cast iron wet liners works unencumbered with a BOSCH L-jet electronic engine management system, one computer controls the high pressure fuel injection, one injector at each intake port; another computer controls ignition/spark timing system. With two CPS (crank position sensor). O2, vacuum and temperature sensors. Variable valve timing (Intake cam) automatically internally controlled. 50 state model!
Bottom line, reliability, responsiveness, power and fuel economy, and meets its smog requirements without anything other than a cat. Amenable to tuning, 5speed manual overdrive transmission, 4:10 rear end, four wheel disc brakes. Dual pod dash and factory air-conditioning. Pininfarina beauty that gets and gives love. A drivers choice.
