1972 Volvo 1800E

Arizona/New Mexico car---all it's life!

Two owners since delivery in December 1971 until February of 2017.

The original owner took delivery from Ray Tanner Motors in Phoenix, AZ on December 21st 1971. They drove the car until 1989 when it was purchased by the second owner. They drove it for 28 years in Arizona and New Mexico before deciding to pass the 1800 along to a new owner who could then enjoy it for many years to come. The only reason I'm selling this 1800E is that I have two ongoing 1800ES projects and I don't have the time or space to devote to this car to take it to the next level.

Exterior:

The quality of the exterior fit and finish is very good. Body panels are smooth, seams and gaps appear to be OEM standard. Exterior trim is finished to a high quality. All exterior lighting and lenses/glass appear to be original. Most of the weather stripping is original, showing some age and wear but still intact. The car has a level stance and rides on stock wheels fitted with new Firestone 185/60/15 tires.

The car was repainted in factory original Cypress Green (paint code 110) in the late 80s or early 90s. The paint still has good shine and depth, however the vehicle would benefit from a respray with new, quality paint. There are no signs of rust or any indications of needed body repair.

This car also has the period correct, and very rare, louvered rear window shade.

Interior:

The vehicles interior is in excellent condition. Front seats have been reupholstered in factory matching tan vinyl (codes 351-311). Door panels. Rear seats, rugs and headliner are original and in very good condition. The dash is free of cracks and all instruments are in working order with the exception of the clock, which is still right twice a day. The radio is an updated unit but resides in the factory location.

Mechanical:

The overall mechanical condition is very good. The engine retains it's original D-jetronic fuel injection. It starts, runs and idles smoothly.

The M46 transmission shifts smoothly and the Overdrive Unit provides the ability to cruise down the freeway quietly.

The A/C system functions well, having been updated with a Sanden rotary compressor and 134R conversion.

Recent services done include:

R&R cylinder head, replaced water pump, drive belts, performed full tune-up, replaced engine mounts, thermostat, radiator cap, heater valve, new battery, resealed overdrive unit, refurbished front end with new steering and tie rods with rebuilt steering box, replaced torque rod bushings, replaced front brake pads and hoses, exhaust hanger bushings and repaired jacking points.

The car comes with original records and documentation including: clean Arizona title, owners manual, warranty registration card, window sticker, 1972 1800E advertising brochure, and car show entry documentation from Palm Springs from the 90's.

Volvo P1800s have seen a steady increase in value over the last few years.. This is a great opportunity to own an appreciating classic with a full and interesting history in the Southwest.
