1976 VOLKSWAGEN - RARE SUNROOF - NEW PAINT - 2.0L ENG - ORIGINAL OWNER BUS -NICE
I purchased this bus in Portland Oregon because I wanted a sunroof bus. I was fortunate to not just find this very nice example but it was also an original owner bus. I purchased from the family whose father purchased brand new (see pics of manual); he was an avid Porsche car guy and actually raced a 356 Porsche with SCCA. He would show up in the bus to all his races and had a Porsche 356 painted on each side of the bus - see picture.
I was told he was as meticulous maintaining the bus as he was he 356. Driving the bus you can tell he did just that as it starts right up and drives very well. I added to my collection with the intention of painting original color and using for going to the beach. However, my daughter is getting ready for College next year and she is applying at colleges that cost more per year than I bought my first house. Therefore I brought in to my friends VW Restoration shop, had the proper colors applied and brought back to original. The engine; suspension, transmission and electrical was gone through by his mechanic so that I knew everything worked as it should. The interior is still original and I kind of like that. The sunroof works very well with the crank and really changes the feeling of a bus; very awesome!
Sorry to see it go as I love it even more now that it is done. I am bringing in tomorrow to Discount Tire to have new Hankook 195-70-14 white wall tires installed. This is a 41 year old bus; it is not brand new and you should not expect it to be. If you have never owned a classic car please contact me before purchasing. All classic cars have their leaks and creaks.
You are welcome to ask any questions and come and see the bus and/or have someone inspect. Also, while I like the interior in its original condition; my friends shop can do an interior restoration for around $3500 if you prefer.
