There are three ranges of Land Cruisers. The utility (70-series), which are the mid size/mid duty wagons, called (Prados), and then you have the larger/luxury wagons (60, 62, 80, 100, 200 series). All of the models are built for high durability. (The difference is in the payloads and towing capacities).

The 70-series and the larger wagons generally both have stronger drivetrains with a 1500 lb or more extra payload capacity and higher towing capacities. The Prado series is more similar in ruggedness to a Toyota 4-Runner or Tacoma Truck. That being said, they also sometimes share engines with other some of the other ranges or models. For example, a 120 Prado in the US may have the same engine as a 100-series US model, and will thus have a higher hauling capacity and tow rating.

In Africa, they use all of the models. But the ones you see on safari tours are generally the 70-series.
