1972 Toyota Land Cruiser Additional Info:

1972 Toyota FJ40 Landcruiser. This is a west coast original! I am only the 2nd registered owner! I have the original title from 1972 which will be included with the sale. I purchased from a seller in New Mexico and had it shipped to me here in Maryland last year. It is ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE to find an original FJ40 in this good condition. This truck has NEVER been restored or painted! Completely unmolested and original! This is very complete just like it came from factory.
Engine/Drivetrain..... Runs really smooth and quietly. I have done a complete tune up including plugs, ires, ondenser, ap, otor, ir filter, nd ignition coil. Brand new 3 core aluminum radiator. I also replaced the thermostat and water pump. The carburetor has been completely rebuilt and the entire fuel system has been cleaned. 3 speed on the floor transmission shifts very nicely and clutch functions like it should. The only thing it may need is a throw out bearing sometime in the future only because it squeaks a little at idle before depressing the clutch pedal. Otherwise functions perfectly. I have replaced all of fluids in the entire vehicle. Both axles have new gear oil, ransmission and transfer case also have new fluids. All of the drain plugs have magnets and they did not show any signs of major wear and tear. This FJ40 has a full PTO winch set up! PTO fluid was checked in both the gear box and winch. The winch was seized when I originally got the vehicle. After some tweaking and lubing it is free and functions as it should. I would suggest pulling the cover off a doing a more thorough inspection and cleaning. I dont have a cable for the winch as you can see in the pictures. The brakes are all in great shape! Brand new master cylinder and front brake lines. I also installed brand new shoes on the front axle and 2 of the wheel cylinders. I had the drums machined and they have plenty of life left on them. The rear brakes were inspected and are in really good shape. Last....all of the tie rod ends and boots have been replaced with brand new ones.
Body/exterior.....The body is in exceptional shape for its age and very solid! A few dings/dents here and there. There is some rust in the rear bottom part of the tub where these trucks are famous for. There is a very small rust spot below the drivers and passenger doors near the seam, nd then 1 on the drivers side front fender. The floor are in exceptional condition! Absolutely NO rust! I pulled all the seats, as tank, nd rear heater, hen cleaned and scrubbed the entire floor. I coated with a paint that matches the exterior (NOT rubberized undercoating or Linex) The windshield frame is in great condition, owever the windshield glass is cracked. I have already purchased the new windshield seals so you just need to get the glass. The wipers function perfectly and I replaced the blades on both wiper arms. The hood is very solid and straight. The passenger fender was dented in on the front which I straightened back to its original shape. Both steps are in good shape and in solid condition. The only exterior part that was missing was the bumperettes. I purchased and installed new OEM ones. Last...the frame is in excellent shape! Very straight and there is absolutely NO rust rot anywhere!
Interior...... As stated in the previous paragraph, he floors have been painted just to clean it up. ALL of the seats have been re-upholstered with SOR (Spector Off Road) original style vinyl seat covers and all of the padding has been replaced. Both rear jump seats are in excellent shape and have also been redone. Both the tool box lid and the transmission tunnel are in great condition. The fuel tank is in excellent shape. I pulled the sending unit for inspection and replaced the gasket. The inside of the tank is very clean. This FJ40 has the original rear floor mounted heater. The dashboard is very original and unmolested. All of the original lights and switches are accounted for. The gauges are in great shape and are all functional! The only thing that doesnt work is the original AM/FM radio. This FJ40 has all the original duct work for the defrost/heater. I removed the pieces when I cleaned out the interior. I have not installed them back because one of the pieces will need replacing. Finally, ll of the seals on the front doors have been replaced with brand new rubber/felt. The windshield channels bottom seal is in good shape so I did not replace. Both of the windows go up and down smoothly. 1 of the regulators was replaced with a very correct reproduction.
Top.....This FJ40 has original soft top bows. NOT original style...actual original factory Toyota soft top bows. The top itself is a OEM style top of very good quality. It is NOT a "Paki-top" as some call them. It was made by a guy in SC who specializes in FJ40 tops. It is made from a "PVC" material which is water resistant and will last much longer than a canvas style top and wont fade. Looks way better than a hard top or best top in my opinion!
Tires.....The tires I installed are an old school bias-ply non radial snow tire. Brand new! Very period correct and original style tire. I have 5 which obviously includes the spare. I also have the spare that was on the truck which I believe to be the original spare which looks brand new and unused. The original wheels are in good solid condition and has the original hub caps.
Electrical....Everything works except for the radio! All blinkers, lashers, eadlights, ail lights, nterior lights, tc all function! I replaced the front blinkers and a couple of the side marker lights because they were cracked. I used OEM lenses/lights as replacements. This FJ40 has an original service light in the glove box that still works!
Extras...I have an DISC BRAKE front axle that came from a 1979 FJ40 that will be included. It will require new rotors, rake lines, nd later model wheels. I have already have new calipers and have everything disassembled and cleaned. The pads that were on the axle have plenty of life left on them. I also have boxes of extra parts from stuff I have replaced or bought as a "just in case". I bought an entire stainless brake line kit for this FJ40. I have only replaced the front lines so far. The rear lines are uninstalled and will be included.
I am only selling because my sons tuition is the priority. I am dreading selling this because I know how lucky I was to find one in this condition. I have enjoyed owning this truck and working on over the winter. I have kept in my shop out of the elements since the day it arrived. I have taken very good care of this FJ40 and hope the next owner appreciates it as much as I do. I personally would leave it original and unrestored because its such a nice survivor. This would be a prime candidate for a restoration as it needs minimal work and everything works! Feel free to ask me any questions. I can send more pics or vidoes of the engine running. Good luck!
