1948 Studebaker M16 Additional Info:

For Sale: 1948 Studebaker M-16 truck (152” wb, dual rear wheels, serial # 61018, engine # 3M 71070, Cab # M16-C2 50866). 42,206 miles. I believe the truck has an Omaha bed. The side panels and tailgate are currently detached but are in storage and included (see two older pictures for full bed assembled).

My father purchased the truck in July 1982 and it remains an unfinished project. If you compare the 1982 picture with the recent photos, you’ll see the fenders and the front bumper have been painted, both doors and the hood are covered in primer, a part of the grille was replaced, fog lights were added, and not visible from the 1982 photo is that the upholstery was repaired. Additionally, at some point the truck was converted to an ignition key start.

This M-16 has been stored indoors since it was purchased in 1982. After replacing the coil wire, cleaning the carburetor, installing a new battery, and fixing a stuck water pump, the engine runs. In fact, it’s running very smoothly and is a testament to the reliability of the Commander engine. There’s also new wiring in the junction box, as well as new brake line in the rear. The truck was driven in and out of the storage shed running off an auxiliary fuel tank for the first few pictures shown here. That said, the brake and fuel systems would need to be reviewed prior to driving the truck any distance. The master and wheel cylinders probably need to be addressed, and the gas tank and lines need cleaning.

The bottom of the cab is undercoated, and the front half of the chassis was sprayed with red rust primer. The back half of the chassis has just surface rust. For its age, the bed is in good overall condition.

Title is clean and the truck is located just outside of Belleville, Illinois, a suburb of St. Louis. Please ask any questions you have and I will be happy to answer or get answers.
