1952 Studebaker Commander
Starliner Hardtop

This is a show car. A no excuses, fully restored, pristine example of Studebaker’s first true hardtop sedan. It has under 30,600 original miles.. I am the third owner. Documentation of the car back to the original owner will be supplied to the buyer. It has always been a California car with no rust or repaired rust ever.

It is the Commander model (V8) with the desirable 3 speed/overdrive transmission. It was built on May 27,1952. Along with the OD transmission, factory equipment included tinted windows, white wall tires, heater/defroster, wheel trim rings, and directional signals. The radio was added by the delivering dealer.

I purchased this car in 2014 from a long time friend who had owned it since 1973. During his term of ownership, my friend brought the very nice, low mileage original that he had purchased to its show car condition. It was primarily a “trailer queen” throughout his ownership. It was trailered to shows all over the US and driven very little. It always garnered a top award at the shows entered. The last show it attended was the Studebaker International Meet in Colorado Springs in 2013 where it took Best of Division.

The car has been repainted the original colors of London Gray over Surf Gray. The paint is in excellent shape. There is one small scratch on the right front fender as shown in the link to pictures later in this listing.
All the chrome has all been replated to show quality both exterior and interior.

The interior has been redone professionally with reproduction materials supplied by Phantom Auto Supply. (Phantom specialized in high end reproduction interiors for classic Studebakers). The headliner was starting to sag so I recently had it replaced professionally with a period correct one.

The numbers matching 232 cubic inch V8 engine (V-172505) was rebuilt in 1988 by Studebakers West in Redwood City, CA. At this time, the car had 28,857 miles on it.

The rest of the mechanical systems were gone through during my friend’s ownership. Radiator, brakes, shocks, and anything else that hinted that it needed attention was taken care of. It runs, drives, and handles like a new car. The engine is quiet. The transmission shifts easily and smoothly. There are no rattles or squeaks.
